Advantages: Easy to use, have almost everything that is legal and normally cheap.
Disadvantages: High fees for selling.
If you want any product you could think of there is a 99.9% chance that Ebay will have it. I have even searched for bananas before just mucking around and they have appeared.
It is very easy to use but before you buy or sell anything you have to register. You have a username and this is shown when you bid or sell anything. If you like an item but do not want to bid just yet or interested on how much an item sells for you can "watch" that item by clicking watch this item and in my ebay it also tells you what you bid on and what you are selling.
There are many different types of auctions like Buy it Now which ends the auction immediately. Normal auctions where they just have a starting price and you try to outbid anyone else. Best offer which is where you make the seller an offer and they can accept or decline. There are also Dutch auctions where there are more than one of an item being sold and you buy them in bulk. If you are selling you can choose which type or types of auctions you want.
You can search anything at the top of every page there is a search bar. You just simply type in a keyword here like any other search engine and it shows results of that product. You can search for different criteria like price, condition, location, sellers e.t.c
Once you win a product it is up to you pay the seller by one of their payment options e.g. PayPal. They should send the item as soon as you have paid and you should receive the item within a few days.
When you get the item you leave feedback on each other and if you had no problems and the item was as described and worked and was sent out quickly you write this very quickly e.t.c. Unless you have a problem give each other positive feedback.
You can sell items as I mentioned but have to pay various fees to do this. You can put 1 free photo in and upload a description of your item. You choose the starting price, what type of auction it is and when it ends. Even if you want a reserve on it. But you have to pay a small fee to list and a fee at the end.
Summary:
I truly recommend using Ebay to buy but I am not sure if it is worth selling on due to the fees.
Summary: Recommend if you are buying but the fees for selling are quite high.

- 05/12/08 Since the latest Final Value Fee rises, I make sure I keep my other ebay fees (Listing Fees) as low as possible. I now only list on free listing days (for low value iitems) and half price days (for higher value items). The higher the start price, the higher the listing fee, but I recommend not starting lower than you want to sell it for, due to the very low final prices I have seen lately.
Add sellers Paypal fees onto the other two eBay listing fees, and this explains why eBay have to offer discounts to get me selling. |
