I hesitated before joining ebay because at the time there were so many terrible stories about people being scammed and I have to say I had my reservations.

The reason I joined was because I was constantly wanting to buy products that I couldn't find elsewhere, and that certainly applies to products that are no longer available widely in shops for example. If you are a collector of something, in my case Rubik's cubes and other puzzles, it is a good place to start finding parts to add to your collection.

If you want to make some money it can also be a good place to sell off old things you no longer want, although the process can sometimes be a bit lengthy and dull after you've listed ten CDs already! For some people they may find it easier to just go to a carboot sale for instance, but then again you wouldn't have as many potential buyers.

If there is nothing you want to sell off but you still fancy making money there is always the possibility that you could contact a wholesaler and have a lot of one product that you sell. The one thing to remember is that if something sounds to good to be true, then it probably is. When trying to sell my laptop on ebay I was contacted by numerous people wanting to do deals outside of the paypal system, which is a definite know and almost certainly means a scam.

Be sure to read all the help available on the ebay site before you get stuck in, because once you have been scammed it could be too late to do something about it. Ebay are very good at sending out emails regarding scam activity.

Summary: Ebay has it's dangers like many websites, but it's positives by FAR outweight that negatives.
