Advantages: You can buy pretty well anything

Disadvantages: Sellers fees expensive

I started using ebay in 2000. It was so exciting at the time. To be honest sellers were on the short side and the buyers seemed happy to buy anything. I'd go into all the junk and charity shops buying all sorts. My favourites at the time were badges. I would pay 10p for a badge and sell it on ebay for £3.00. I also used to buy surplus army gear from army shops and sell these on at a great profit too. To be honest I'd sell pretty much anything. It was a lot easier than getting up early of a Sunday morning and going to a Car Boot Sale.

When items finished the excitement was usually in the last few minutes, when an items price would usually shoot. As a family we would sit next to the computer with excitement to see who had won it and what part of the world we were sending it too. Usually it was the UK but a lot of items were also sent to the US, Australia, France, Spain etc

I didn't actually buy a lot of stuff on ebay. I could often find it cheaper elsewhere. But those items I did buy were delivered and the experience as a whole was very good.

Over the years more and more sellers came on board and the prices realised became less and less. It didn't have the same fun factor anymore. By the time I took ebay fees into account I was coming out with less and less. Over time I then started selling less and less.

Over the last couple of years in my opinion Ebay has looked towards the larger sellers called Powersellers. They get special treatment. I haven't used it so much since then. It is still a great tool to have as often now you can buy many new items cheaper than on the high street (A lot different than 9 years ago). As for ebay fees and my view that they now favour the Powerseller, that is a total different story. I'll review that at a later date.

Summary: Great site to buy and sell.

What annoys me about ebay that the books I used to be able to find in charity shops by certain authors are no longer available there but seem to be being sold on ebay for upwards of £1.00 with at least a £1.00 postage cost which is just a ripoff considering I could pick up books to add to my collection for under 50p. Only the dross that doesn't sell on ebay seems to be available in charity shops these days...
