Advantages: Quick cash! Cyber Space Car Boot Sale

Disadvantages: The occasional Idiot and fees can add up

Im pretty sure nearly everyone has heard of www.ebay.co.uk and if you haven't where have you been?

EBay is a quick and efficient way of selling unwanted goods, think of it a bit like an online car boot sale, but without having to stand there in the cold, with having to load the car full of your stuff, and coming back and having to sort it all out again as we all know when you do a car boot you never get rid of everything..... well I never have.

HOW DO I SELL ON EBAY?

Its really easy to sell on EBay you just register an account and its pretty straight forward and you can follow the prompts, upload your picture with a good description and sell your item throughout the UK , Europe or Worldwide.

I tend to sell worldwide as you get a wider range of people looking at what you're selling and therefore a greater chance of selling straight away.

I've sold many items on eBay, pushchairs, car seats, toys and clothes. With the bigger items such as pushchairs you can normally arrange a courier to come and collect the item and send it within the UK for £15-25 and with the bigger items you can also just select that you want local collection where someone will come to your house and collect the item paying you in cash.

Ive also sold a couple of cars which was so easy and they went within a day and I also purchased a Vauxhall Vectra off ebay too which was a great bargain of £900.00

Anything you can think of you can sell on eBay except fake designer goods and a few other items which they don't allow such as sex toys although this may have changed now.

When you're listing your item you can choose different fonts, pictures and also spell check as you dont want to go spelling your description wrong and looking like a numpty!

To make your item sell quick make sure you have a good clear picture, the first picture is free to list and then each addition picture you add on your listing is 12p. when you have finished your listing it will show you how much you will be charged, they also charge a final value fee of what your item sells for although ive been with eBay for years (2005) and I never really did find out how much the final fee was but it's the convience of using eBay, it's a great way to make some extra cash.

You will attract more people to your listing if you accept paypal, www.paypal.co.uk this is a convient and easy way to send and receive payments worldwide and is easy to set up.

I tend to have all payments sent this way now as its easier and quicker offers the buyer some form of protection too although they do charge a fee to accept money paid into your account, Im not sure of the exact amount but it's a fair amount for the convience of accepting a payment.

Once the buyer has paid you ideally should send out within a couple of days, On my listings I put down that I send Mondays and Wednesdays as these are the days my children are at nursery so its easier for me to go to the post office alone before I pick them up.

FEEDBACK

EBay has a feedback system where you write a couple of words on the buyer or seller and this can be positive, neutral or negative.
You can only leave positive now on someone that buys something from you which I don't think is fair but most people are ok on eBay but you have to watch a couple of them as they will expect perfection on a 2nd hand item so its best to be as precise as you can when selling anything.

EBay is a great way to buy anything too, I use to buy a lot of baby clothes but I don't as much anymore because EBay has got more popular I find the items I want go for so much I might as well buy new anyway.

EBAY TIPS TO GRAB A BARGAIN

1* Search for what your looking for and instead of going straight to auction, click on BUY IT NOW and then NEWLY LISTED this will show the newest listings and if anyone is selling something mega cheap then you may pick up a great bargain before anyone has noticed.

2* Dont put in a bid straight away as you can click on an item to watch it, make a note of the auction ending time and bid last minute.

3* Also see if you can save on postage on larger items and smaller if the seller allows you to collect, by clicking "nearest first" this will select items that are the closest to you.

It can be very time consuming watching auctions to end and looking through all the listings but if you are a bargain hunter and enjoy that sort of thing I would recommend eBay.

Summary: Make some extra cash and declutter
