Advantages: You buy and sell pretty much anyting you want
Disadvantages: Selling fees can be costly
A lil history on ebay...
ebay was founded in 1995, its an online auction and shopping website where both people and businesses can sell a variety of goods (i've found pretty much everything available on here but with some exceptions). ebay is a worldwide stie but there are also 30 localised web sites for countries including UK, France, Spain, Germany plus many more.
Whats all the fuss about...
I really only began to hear about ebay in 2003/04 and signed up myself in 2004, once you've signed up you can really begin ebaying.
You begin on the screen called 'my ebay' and from here you can see your general overview which shows,
buying reminders- everything your bidding on or have won and actions that need to be done to complete the transaction.
Selling reminders- everything you're selling or have sold and all the actions that need to be done to complete the transaction.
Watching- this is all the items that are for sale, you can add these to your watch list if your interested in bidding on the item.
Bidding- All items your currently bidding on.
Active selling- All items your currently selling.
Buying...
There is a search box just type in here what it is your looking for and the search engine will naroow down the possible items, there is also an advance search option if you need to filter your search futher.
Once you have found what your looking for you can choose an auction or look for a 'buy it now option' which is usually a higher price but you will have won the item. With an auction you can bid there and then with your highest price (ebay uses proxy biddding allowing you to win the item at the lowest amout possible until your outbid) or you can bide your time and watch the item until closer to the auction ending.
Selling...
When selling there are a huge number of options to personalise your ad and make it stand out from the others (many features cost add cost to the listing).
Firstly you create a title to show what your selling then you get the option to add the features. Its a good idea to tell the buyers what your returns policy is, list your postage and packaging price (also tell the buyers what type of payments you will except (choose from Paypal, cheque, postal order whatever is best for you).
My Experience...
I began ebayin in 2004 i was looking to get all the old retro consoles like nes, snes, n64 (sadly i'd sold all mine as they were no longer being used) ebay really was the only place i could find everyhting i wanted and they were all at a reasonable price.
When bidding on auctions i always put my highest bid in, bad move i found other people were watchin items up until the last minute and putting in a higher bid as the auction ended so now i try to be a little smarter with my bidding.
Then i was hooked on ebay, everyday i would search for items i didn't need but still wanted so i could fead my ebay habit!!! Then it began to get costly so how did i keep up buying items?? The answer was obvious really sell the stuff i no longer wanted or used.
Now i'm a seller too, like the title states 'one mans trash is another mans treasure!!' and it really is true things i might have thrown out or left to gather dust can be sold on and used again. To date i can't tell you how many items i've bought and sold, but i can tell you its a great website just be careful not to get addicted and start selling things you actually want and need :)
Summary: This really is adictive and although you get rid of junk you don't want somehow you buy more!!

- 23/06/09 whats annoyed me about eGay is the new postage rule, where you HAVE to make it free - so now you have to put your postage price into the auction price which means paying eGay fees! rubbish - i stopped selling as much since they enforced this law upon us.. last week. |
