Advantages: Sheer choice and possibilities. Someone will be selling what you're looking for.
Disadvantages: Fees and commission soon add up and eat into your profits.
I'm not sure why I'm even writing this review, because if you haven't heard of ebay, you must have been living in a cave for the past decade.
Ebay is an online auction house, but one where you bid in secret to everyone else, so you have no idea what everyone else is bidding on. This is a blessing and a curse, as you can get items dirt cheap if you're lucky, but likewise, if you aren't careful, someone can come in and you've lost out by a few pence.
There's a whole raft of places online where you can go and check out the best tactics for bidding, as well as top tips for selling. The excitement of watching your items gather a few extra bids (or not as the case may be) in the dyding seconds is great, and if you can hit the mark, then there;s some decent money to be made from sellign you old stuf.
A few tips: look out for items withina few miles of your house so you can pick them up and save on postage costs. Don't bid too early - it;s just a wasted bid. Insttead, just watch the item in My Ebay. Use the Fat Fingers website to check for items with spelling mistakes (especially if it has a strange name) to find items everyone else hasn't. Don't sell too many cheap things as your profits will get eaten up by fees and Payapal commissions.
Ebat is fantastic for the types of things that are fine secondhand. DVDs, games and music are the best, because its the contents you're looking for, not the packaging.
So what are you waiting for? Jump in, get bidding and see what you can find. I swear, it's like having access to millions of car boot sales!
Summary: The first place to look for buying online
