Advantages: Bargains, the ability to find anything.
Disadvantages: Bidding wars, time taken to upload listings.
A popular and well known auction website which has made online trading available to anyone and not just the business savy.
Although at first it can be daughting adding your first listing or making a bid, Ebay makes your first experience enjoyable and simple.
Sign up takes up all of 5 minutes, pretty quick and painless. I vaguely remember having to wait for an PIN to arrive to my address which made sure I was verified. One thing you are encouraged to do is to register an account with Pay Pal, as this is a preferred method of payment for many users.
Intially, I signed up to Ebay to sell a few unwanted items (clothing, aftershave, dvds, books etc) that I though were too valuable to give away, I did not expect to be making a decent amount 4 years on.
Although adding a listing can be time consuming, once you complete your first one you can click sell similar and change some of the information and upload a new photo. The commitment does pay off and theres nothing better than decluttering your house and making money from doing it at the same time.
You can find almost anything on ebay (ipods, perfumes & aftershaves with only 5% left in the bottle, vintage clothing, autograhs). I usually check ebay before making a purchase instore as it will normally be cheaper even when paying for the p&p.
There are two ways to get your hands on different items, bidding or buy it now. Bidding can get very intense, especially in the last few minutes, some are often left disheartened by being outbid but its best to keep optimistic and keep trying. Buy it now offers a quick way to buy an items without having to wait for a bid to end.
For people weary of being conned, remember that every user is required to leave feedback so if an item fails to appear, you can leave the person negative feedback (to warn future buyers) and when paying with paypal, you are protected up to £500, in the event this happens.
In the 4 years I have been on ebay, I have never encountered anything dodgy and a large percentage of users are friendly people, just trying to sell and buy without hassle.
I still continue to buy and sell without problems and their customer service is quick to help with any sort of query.
Ebay has helped fund nights out and also provided outfits for these occasions. Abit of extra income is always pretty helpful, especially at the end of the month when funds are short.
Summary: Selling and buying is simple from Ebay.
