Advantages: easy to sell, convenient, accessible

Disadvantages: costs have increased, bad feedback system, too many dropshippers

Ebay is a great auction site on which to list items for sale as well as looking for items that you may not know where else to look. I have had an ebay account for around 5 years and although I do not use it frequently, It certainly comes in useful when I decide to declutter, or when I am purchasing something.

Ebay is fairly easy to use and has a structure which means it is easy to use for first timers. Most people however will have visited ebay at some point and will therefore know the structure of it, and how it works.

As Ebay has grown, it has become a worldwide mega retailer which instead of bringing vast reductions in listing fees, has resulted in a surge of Asian Powersellers/dropshippers who spam the ebay pages with pages upon pages of cheap rubbish, all often come from the same seller and are of the same item. This now results in the occasional ebayer trawling page upon page of items, just to try and find an item that they are looking for.

The recent restructuring of feedback has not been warmly welcomed, and now means if your item is lost in the post/delayed, the buyer can leave you negative feedback, (which ruins your feedback history) and as they have paid you can only give positive feedback! The paypal dispute process will always favour the buyer so always attain a proof of posting and use a recorded delivery service if you can, as this will give you a leg to stand on if a buyer reports a problem with the item.

Postage fees have increased, and ebay now force some items to have free postage, meaning you have to take a cut in your profit as you are unable to pass this onto the buyer.

Overall Ebay is still a great site, however it would be a lot easier to navigate without the hundreds of powersellers/dropshippers, and would be even better if they changed back to the old feedback system.

Summary: Still a great site but some work to do, to get it where it used to be
