Advantages: Good bargains to be found
Disadvantages: You cant trust everybody unfortunately
After having many years of experience of ebay, I didnt really think good or bad about it. It is an online auction site, which allows you people to get rid of their junk and another person to find their treasure.
I probably prefer to be the buyer when it comes to ebay, as I think its alot less hassle than selling. I have bought many items from ebay, but my most recent and most proudest and might I also add... the biggest bargain, I have ever had from ebay has to be my new acer one aspire laptop!
** My New Bargain Item **
About a month ago, or just under I was desperately searching for a netbook for under £100.00 as I had discovered the Disgo Netbrowser 3000 on sale for £95.00 at Play. (I later found out that this was not a netbook, but a mere machine that only let you on certain websites and had very limited access). Anyway, I decided to go on ebay, as I would if I were to find any item. I bidded on a few netbooks but decided that if I was going to get one, I didnt want to pay too much and didnt bid over £90.00. Eventually all my bids were outbidded one at a time, which I kind of figured out would happen anyway, as these auctions were ending at £300-£400. Three weeks pass and I got an email for a 'second chance offer'. I read the message and didnt quite believe it. The message said that the seller was offering me the chance to buy the netbook for £73.02 (which is what I bid on it for) as the origional buyer did not pay for the item. I could hardly believe it and checked out the seller and the product description. All seemed to be OK! As the postal strike is still going on and I am going travelling soon, I decided not to take too many risks. I sent the seller a message asking about the postage. He replied within a few hours and said he would send it via Parcel Force 24hrs, so I paid and was a little worried that the message was a fake. But within the next working day I received my little and very cute (and portable) netbook. It was brand new as stated and I was very happy! I knew you could get a bargain on ebay, but even I thought this was ridiculous (in a good way of course).
My opinion of ebay is now pretty positive and I am very glad I made that bid many weeks ago. I am currently selling a few items and hope that the final buyers feel like they grabbed a bargain. I have always respected ebay, but even moreso with my latest purchase.
I have also a few not so good experiences with ebay, which included a seller being rather devious and made it look like they were selling a phone, when indeed they were selling a weblink to get a phone. This seller of course had their account closed due to misleading information. I have also had times where I have not sold items and ended up losing money instead of making it. But like the saying goes.. you win some you lose some.
Overall I like ebay and think that there are still bargains out there!

- 04/11/09 I don't sell much on there now due to the higher selling and paypal fees not to mention buyers trying it on now you can't "neg" them.
