EBay
EBay is one of the first auction sites to hit the internet and was founded in 1995 by Pierre Omidyar.
The auction site is a great way to buy and sell goods very cheaply and to also make money through selling your items and many people have made their own businesses by selling through eBay.
***The site***
When you load up EBay you can see all the popular items being sold, it has a nice clean website which is very easy to navigate, they have a categories section and if you click this which is located at the top under the eBay logo you will be taken to a huge list of items that suit practically anything you need.
EBay has stuck with the same colour theme since it was founded and has become very recognisable.
Once you sign up you have a section on the website called My EBay, this is where you see everything you have bought, sold or selling.
***Buying and selling***
I have sold and bought many things on eBay and it is very easy to do so.
All that is required is for you to just type in what you are looking for and click either buy now if that option is available or enter a bid.
It is generally best to bid when an item is in its last minutes as there is a big chance with the item ending soon that many people will try and outbid each other so I prefer to bid last minute if the price is still in my range.
Selling on eBay is easy, just click sell write about the item upload a picture and enter shipping info and price details.
To buy or sell eBay insist you have a PayPal account as that is their preferred method of sending your payment and the majority of sellers and buyers use this and it is overall much safer than sending cheques or postal orders through the post.
*** Costs ***
EBay make their money when you sell an item, they charge you to list the item although this is normally around 20p unless you add additional features such as make your item stand out by making it bold or highlighted or even adding a theme.
This is not the only way eBay make money they also take 10% of what your item makes so if you sell something and it goes for £100 they take £10 which is very steep in my opinion, 2-3% maybe but 10% is a lot.
When your item sells and you receive the money to your PayPal account, PayPal also take a small fee this is around £5 for every £100 that you receive so when you look at it like that you sell an item for £100 you will actually only get around £80-£85 from it
***Conclusion***
Overall eBay is great to make some extra money with things you no longer need or use.
You can buy items cheaply from eBay and they sell almost anything even cars, houses and holidays.
I have had some bad experiences using eBay when selling such as sending an item and the buyer claiming they didn't receive it and this entitles them to get their money back which means i lost the item and the money so I always send my items via tracked delivery.
I give eBay a 7/10 I would like to give 10/10 but I won't mainly due to the fact the fees you need to pay them and the issue I had with buyers claiming they didn't receive items I, but as long as you send items tracked you shouldn't have no issues.
Summary: overall great to make money selling or buying things on the cheap
