Advantages: easy way to make some from home.
Disadvantages: Some people dont pay,
Ebay.co.uk is the worlds most known and used auction site. You can purchase pretty much anything and everything and get it delievered directly to you home address. Not only can you purchase items directly from store you can also bid on items. The fees are very reasonable. But remember you will pay a 10% of the ending price of the product sold, to ebay for using the service.
I myself sell and also purchase on ebay. And have found its a great way to declutter my home. And to make ends meet with the bills each month. I generally sell products from childrens clothing, toys to pushchairs and books. We have never had a problem with ebay, we have had a few people who have bidded on items who have never paid. But you can open disputes and retrieve your listing fee back from ebay.
I would recommend that at the bottom of your listing you put a note to buyer to pay within a certain amount of time or people with no feedback to contact first to make sure they are genuine.
When listing always try to add a picture as this will encorage people to place a bid and purchase the product from you. Also make sure your discription is as detailed and correct as possible otherwise you could end up with bad feed back.
Ebay also has a feedback facility which enables you to leave feedback to the person you have either sold to or purchased from. You can rate using 5 stars to how well the sell/buyer communicated, postage cost and delivery time. This enables you to see how other peoples transactions witht he buyer or seller have gone. And weather or not the seller/buyer can be trusted.
The best and safest payment meathod on ebay is to use paypal. But Some sellers will also except cash on collection, bankers credit or postal order.
Listings can run for either 1, 3, 5 or 10 days. The longer you have the auction run for the more people that will look at the item and hopfully bid.
If you are registered as a shop seller you can list products for a lot longer period.
You can list pretty much anything except knives and guns as expected.
You can also start bids from as low as 99p and its free to list. Anything more than this there is a small charge. But this is very low compare to the profit potenital that can be made from selling your old brick-a-brak.
Some people do sell fake products so be careful when buying names products and check with the seller if they do returns and refunds just incase your not happy with the product you recieve. Most ebay shops withh agree to returns.
Overall i would recommend using ebay. Its basically like doing a car boot sale but your warm and in your own home.
Summary: excellent way to get rid of your old bits and bobs.
