Advantages: Very easy, convenient
Disadvantages: £1.50 posting fee
A couple of weeks ago, I was given an MP3 player. It wasn't the sort that I wanted because my PC didn't have the right drivers to support it. Nevertheless, it was brand new but already opened and would be too late to try and return it. I thought about selling it but didn't want to advertise my phone number and address in the local paper. Instead, I stumbled upon Ebay and have put my MP3 player up for sale. It was easy. You start by registering an account with them. Once you have a username and password you can go onto the site and sell your favourite things, browse for items that you might want and then buy. My posting included details of the product, a digital photo I had of it, the bidder's start price, payment options and it was £1.50 to post my listing. It took me about 10 minutes to put my item up for sale. Once you become more of an ebay-head, you can pay for additional ways to promote your sale item, including adding bold face to your posting and posting it on more than one category. All a bit more than necessary for an ebay virgin like myself. The MP3 player is the first thing that I have ever tried to sell on the site. The auction hasn't closed yet so do not know what price I will end up getting for it. I will need to pay ebay a portion of that final total bid- I believe it was something like 2% if your item costs more than £20. I will let you know how that part of things goes. The good part is that with ebay, I'm covered. I don't need to meet some stranger in some dark alley to make the trade. Whoever ends up buying my product will send me their cheque or postal order before I send them my product, covering me for any possible bounced cheques.

- 07/08/01 Good op, though somewhat limited to only a seller's perspective. I love ebay (as you can see from my op on the subject). Also it's worth mentioning that you can create a listing complete with photo from 15p. |
