Advantages: see op

Disadvantages: none

When I first used ebay, I wasn`t so sure about it; I had been a regular user of Yahoo auctions until they decided to close it down and they recommended this site to their members.

The first thing that put me off this site was that they needed your credit/debit card details in order to receive a small fee off you in order to place an ad. I was used to just placing my ad, hassle free, on Yahoo. And besides, I didn`t have a credit/debit card.

A few months later, I decided to visit ebay again, as I was looking to buy a mobile phone. I was surprised to see that there was a huge selection of phones on this site and I was spoilt for choice! Although many of them probably lived miles away from me, I thought it was well worth a browse. I came across a Nokia 8310 with a starting price of £50. Well, I know these phones go for about £200 so I placed a bid for £60. Unfortunately there were still quite a few days left to go before the auction closed (I doubt the seller would`ve accepted £60 for it anyway!)

I was outbid by about 10 people and the price went up to about £120. This was still cheap and this time, there were only a few hours left to go; even if I didn`t want the phone personally, I could still sell it on and make a profit! So I put in a bid for £125 and was outbid the next hour. I ended up (just) winning the auction with a final bid of £135!

The seller lived quite close by, I picked up the phone, which was in good condition and still had the box and everything else. I sold the phone a couple of weeks later for £200! £70 for doing nothing!

That is one of the many advantages of auction sites and ebay makes the perfect one as it has so many members and so many products.

The small fee you have to pay does have it`s purposes; I can now see that it is a good thing to have; this ensures that the site is only open to over 18`s and that people will not use it unless they are serious; there is nothing more irritating than t
imewasters! Besides, it`s only 25p an item.

I would recommend ebay if you are looking for a bargain or even as a business opportunity- this buying and selling business really works a treat if you get it right!
