Advantages: hardly any competition, free credit when you register
Disadvantages: items expensive, no bidders
I decided to give friday auction a go after reading the opinions on dooyoo. The name of the auction site got me wondering though! Friday auction - does this mean you can only buy and sell on Friday's? So i decided to check it out. The layout was easy to understand. The website was very easy to access and so were the links. The only problem was that it took so long to get from one page to another. Maybe that is something to do with my internet connection, but i've only had that problem with friday auction, so i don't know!!!The auction website is not as bright and colourful as ebay, but after reading about the fees for sellers, i decided to register. Luckily on friday-auction, it is only 10p to list, whereas on ebay it is 15p to list. Also after the final bid on ebay they take off 5.25% minimum on all final prices, whereas on friday-auction they only take off 2.5%. I clicked the register button on the side and it was nice and easy to register with them. The good thing about it is that if you register, they credit £10 to your account and if you register with your credit card, they credit £20 to your account, so i decided to put my credit card on file. After i had registered, i received a confirmation email in my email inbox - all i had to do was click on the link in my email to confirm my email address and get my auction account activated. Easy peasey lemon squeezy!!! Next, i decided to search the website for items i was interested in (i found the search button at the top of the page). I was disappointed at the lack of items listed. Ebay has thousands more. But then friday-auction isn't international or advertised as much as ebay, which is a shame as the fees are cheaper :(. Unfortunately aswell, the items are quite expensive, unlike ebay where you can get the odd thing for a penny or even free. I put loads of items on for sale but they didn't seem to be selling even quality branded make u
p or popular music artists, so i decided to cancel the auctions! I also looked at the other items for sale and they didn't seem to have any bids either. Maybe friday-auction would be better if it had more publicity. At the moment there isn't even a quater of the amount of people like there is on ebay. In my opinion, ebay seems like a very busy social place and friday auction seems like a ghost town! So in my opinion, if you want sales and profits then register with ebay and if you want to have a chance with friday auction and are not too bothered about whether your item sells or not, then register with friday - auction, this is especially good as you get free credit as explained earlier when you register. I think the only good thing about this site is the fact that you've got little chance of being outbid on items that you bid on, not really any competition. I have also seen that there is a friday-auction magazine out (its free in post office's and selected supermarkets). It contains hundreds of classifieds, ads and tells you about the auction website. The security is good though on the site and you have your own member homepage which no one can access except yourself, which is good. It also tells you about the auctions you currently have running and your acount balance etc. On ebay, the members homepages have alot more on them and the whole page is accessed the member. On friday auction, you can only look at certain pages as some will be blocked out until you have gained access to them. Don't ask me why though. Maybe for people with credit cards can access more links, I don't know :( There is one good thing though, I had some problems so emailed the support and they were quick to help. I am ditching friday auction and going back to good ol' ebay. Friday auction reminds me of a spooky, cobweby, deserted village in some old western state lol

- 09/01/03 Sounds as though it has possibilities, Ebay strikes me as just too big now. |

- 09/01/03 This is a real shame as I wouldn't mind an alternative to ebay. It's probably because no one has heard of it, i know I haven't. It might be worth keeping an eye on this as more people register. |
