Advantages: good idea and trustworthy sellers & buyers
Disadvantages: need patience when selling items-takes a while
After a pain in the backside seller on Ebay got my account closed down, (I won't go into details!) I needed to find a site where I could sell items other than books, cds or dvds. I haven't got a clue as to how I found this one but I am very grateful for it.
Preloved is a site for second hand goods. One where you can put your used items up for sale using a free advert.
To sign up is all very simple, (the little box to join is right down at the bottom of the home page) and won't take you too long to set up your account. Just your usual home details, username etc.
Once you've done that you're all set to begin.
To list an advert you need to go to the Classifieds link. There are then two choices - private or business sellers. The private sellers is completely free to place your ad, even if you do have your item sold the site won't take any money from you. If you're a UK business then it will cost you £20 + VAT every month. At the moment Preloved are offering a 2 month free trial for business advertising.
Once you've picked your choice you will get a list of different catagories to choose where you're going to put your item.
Home and Family
Health and Leisure
Holidays and Travel
Computing
Motoring
Property and Accommodation
Office and Business
Employment, Education and Training
Personal
As you can see, there is a wide variety. Under each of these headings are subcatagories, so you can just scan your eyes down to see if the product you want to sell is in which section.
Most of the time it will be there, they just may not be where you expect them to be. Jewellery comes under home and family whilst books come under health and leisure-which thinking about it does acually make sense!
In some cases there will be extra choices to pick, but that's just to make it more detailed.
When you get the advert selling page there are more options as to how you want your item to be sold. You can place adverts saying you want something, to sell something, rent or swap.
If you are selling it is better that you provide a picture as it's more likely that someone will purchase it.
The asking price section does give you a wide variety of how you want your product to be sold. Anything from being free (not a lot of people pick this option), to making you an offer, or to how near to your price.
After that your advert will appear on the site after about 10 minutes. You will need to be a bit patient. A lot of the time you don't always get much success. If however, you do keep it there eventually you might get a bit of luck. It took 3 months for one of my necklaces to get sold but I got £30 out of it so patience is a virtue!
There is also a forum page where you can message and chat with other members. The actual members link will go to your own account. This will provide details like how many adverts you've got listed.
This is a great site for selling items and I have found them to be trustworthy sellers and buyers. It's a nice site and fairly easy to use and understand. I think if people were more aware of it the sellers would have more luck with getting money but either way, for now at least it's still something good for finding used goods which are perfect for you.
