Preloved is a website that lets you place internet ads for free. They also have a search option meaning that if you want to buy something secondhand you can browse the website to see if anyone's selling what you're after. There's a section for private sellers and business sellers and the private sellers option (for people like me who just want to get rid of a few bits and bobs) is free of charge.
The website isn't the most attractive due to the rather ugly yellow and white colour scheme but what does it really matter? The layout is really good and the site is easy to navigate due to the range of catergorys and options on the sites main page, eg 'sell it now', 'search for a bargain' and so on. Further down the page there's a section with all of the catergories listed - there's everything from cars, pets, furniture and bikes to jobs and houses.
Signing up to Preloved is a really simple process which takes a matter of minutes. It is free to join and all you need to do is enter your details. These include your e-mail adress, full name, home adress (don't worry, only your town is made visible on your profile) and your phone number. Phone numbers are optional but if you are selling a product I'd recommend adding your number as I've found that 99 percent of people prefer to ring than email as they get a quicker awnser to whatever they want to know about the item you're selling.
Once you've joined you will be sent a confirmation email - all you need to do is click the link in the e-mail that you've been sent. This simply ensures that it really is your e-mail adress. If you're using Preloved to buy products you will not need to provide any extra information to confirm your identity but if you are selling items you will need to confirm your identity by phone or post. I opted for the phone option and I was rung up and given a code which I entered on the site and my account was then ready to use.
I've used Preloved for both buying and selling and I've been a member for around a year. We got my daughters travel cot from a local woman who had advertised it on preloved - we got it for £15 instead of £40 and we also got a television for our guest room for £60.00 instead of over £300 from a local couple. We also were going to buy a new bed frame however as the guy was unable to deliver it and was unwilling to give us time to arrange a van to pick it up we ended up buying one from a furniture shop as it was too much hassle arranging to pick it up.
Placing an advert on Preloved is really easy. You can add photos, the price that you want and a brief description of the item. I've sold a petrol mower on Preloved for £40.00 along with a rowing machine for £120.00. I got cash in hand for both of them and it took under a week to sell them. I got lots of responses for both and sold them to the people who replied to the advert first. I've not had issues with any oddbods or time wasters which is good and this is obviously always a worry when your phone number is made public. The people that I sold the items to were very pleasant and one even sent me an email after collection telling me that the mower was great and he'd just mowed his lawn and how nice it was meeting me - bless!
Preloved lets people pay through Paypal which is handy if you're selling something to someone who isn't local however everything that I've bought and sold has been paid for with cash in hand. The site's a brilliant, free way to get quick cash for unwanted items and it's fun to browse through the different catergories (especially the pet catergory!) to see what's for sale. Overall, highly recommended.
