Advantages: great range of products
Disadvantages: people winning your auctoion then not buying the product
I have been a lurker/bargain hunter on the QXL site for some time. I have never actually bought anything from it yet. Spotted some bargains but always been out bit unfortunately. However last week when I realised I was strapped for cash this month I decided to try out being a seller on QXL. So I looked through my things and found a portable CD player and a Sega Saturn. So I set up my account and arranged an auction. I took the default time, which is 4 days. Looking back in hindsight that wasn’t that good an idea as that meant the auction ended on a Sunday. I need to look and see when their peak time is and end my auctions then. Anyway there was one bid a piece on each item when I left work on Thursday, and I was away so I was not going to be able to check out the status. Anyway on Sunday I received two SMS messages telling me the auction had ended and the items were sold. HOW MUCH FOR?? I wondered, as they don’t tell you in the SMS, so I had to wait till Monday. So Monday I logged in and found that Saturn had one bid still at the starting price, which was a tenner. I wasn’t bothered £10 is better than no pounds. The CD player caused some interest but most the bids were at the last minute. If you are a buyer this is the best strategy. Anyway the starting price was £15 and I got £27 and the buyer paid delivery which was £3. Once the auction closes QXL sends you the email addresses of the buyers who you contact with your info. Then you wait for the money and then post the item. This was all straight forward for the CD player, fine and dandy. But the guy who bid for the Saturn has not contacted me :-( I understand he may of changed his mind but he could at least have the decency to reply. Any way I know have to request a refund from QXL, its not for much cheaper than it would have been in the paper, and its definitely more effective! The total cost to me for selling the items was £2 which I th
ink is very reasonable. So remember don’t bin it QXL it

- 05/07/01 In our house we never manage to part with anything not even to sell it. Sounds a good plan though. |
