Advantages: really cheap stuff if you look for it
Disadvantages: people not sending you money when they have bid on something
I could spend hours on auction websites, maybe it’s because I’m nosey and like to see what other people are selling but I think it’s more than likely to be because I’m a bargain hunter! I think that Yahoo Auctions is the best online auction website that I have found, I prefer it anyway. It’s free to list items so generally things are cheaper than they are on paid auction sites – ebay for example. Nothing against ebay though! I have both sold and bought things from yahoo auctions and I have never had anything that hasn’t arrived after sending payment. If you do have problems you can contact yahoo and they will investigate the missing item so there is some sort of insurance there! You have to give all of your details when registering so they should know where they live etc! Selling things isn’t as easy. There have been many times when someone has bid on an auction of mine, I’ve sent loads of e-mails asking for the money and never heard anything. Maybe they have changed their e-mail address but surely it would be a good idea to inform Yahoo when you do this, they aren’t psychic! As I’ve already mentioned you don’t have to pay to list things on Yahoo auctions so if you don’t sell you item it’s no great loss. You can instruct Yahoo to re-submit the item for you if it has no bids, they do this up to five times then you have to re-submit it again yourself. If nobody has bought anything after it’s been there after five weeks that should tell you something though! Throw it away, nobody wants it!!! If you need more information about anything there is a section where you can submit a question to the seller. When they answer Yahoo e-mail you to tell you what their answer is – sounds good doesn’t it? Doesn’t work unless the seller actually answers the question though (big hint there). Some things I have found on th
e auctions aren’t that cheap, in fact you can buy them cheaper new. DVD’s come into this category. DVD’s aren’t cheap in the UK anyway and if your player will play other region discs you can get them cheaper from Canada new than people are selling them for on the auctions. I have never bought anything of great value on the auctions, I think the most expensive thing was about £20, I’m a bit reluctant to send someone that I have never met a cheque for any great amount, never trust anyone!! The website itself is very easy to use. The search engine on the site can either search titles or descriptions of auctions. Submitting an auction is very easy, it guides you through all the steps and tells you how to put a picture up – you don’t need to be a genius to submit an auction. In fact, I think someone rather stupid would manage it quite easily if you turned the computer on for them. Spend some time on this auction, even if you have nothing in mind you are guaranteed to find something you want to bid on. Also before you throw anything away list it on Yahoo auctions, you’d be amazed at the rubbish some people buy.
