Klipsch iGroove SXT WWI iPod Speaker System
by shabbating Background: As much as I love my iPod, when I'm not on the move I find listening to music through headphones quite irritating. I prefer to listen to music through speakers but the sound quality from my laptop is average at best. Given that I have zero CDs, the only option for me really was to get an iPod dock. So ... how did I decide on the Klipsch iGroove SXT? In a word, price. Have a quick Google about iPod docks and no doubt the name Bose will be everywhere but they don't come cheap, at all. I couldn't really afford to spend more than £100 on the dock so I had to look for a more affordable system. Amazon brought me to Klipsch, with decent prices and good reviews I decided to have a punt. The price: On Amazon this docking system currently costs £64 with a RRP of £130. The look: The iGroove is very sleek and will fit in with most decors. It's fairly small in length and height but it is a bit chunkier than I expected. The iPod fits into the cradle which is in the middle of the speaker; being slightly OCD I am a fan of the symmetry! There are three buttons on the top of the dock: power, volume up and volume down. The docking station comes with a variety of plastic inserts which fit into the cradle, this ensures that all models of iPod will fit in the dock and stand securely. The system can only be powered from the mains so there is a plug cable attached to the rear of the dock. The dimensions are 30.5 cm x 11.8 cm x 12.1 cm so it is fairly portable if you wanted to take it to a friend's house or just move it around the house. To the back of the dock there are aux and s-video outputs, this is to hook the iPod up to a TV. I have never used this feature so cannot comment on how good it is. The iGroove comes with a remote control; it's a very basic design as would be expected with the system having limited features. The remote allows you to skip back and forward through tracks, alter the volume and turn the system on and off. It is a mini remote and grey in colour. The remote isn't always the most responsive thing in the world; the infra-red seems to have a limited range. The experience: Having never heard of Klipsch before purchasing this iPod dock I was a little wary of what the quality was going to be like. No matter how many good things you read about something, you never really know until it turns up. Setting up the dock is pretty easy; the only thing that takes some time is finding the right cradle insert for your iPod model. Once that is done, just plug it in and select a song. Thankfully the quality is impressive, especially given the price. It is a lot louder than I thought it would be (obviously you can set the volume at the level you are comfortable with) and I was impressed with the bass. The quality may not be comparable to full on sound systems that cost a lot more than £60-odd but for what you pay the sound is great. The Klipsch iGroove does the job as an upgrade to laptop speakers. Overall: The Klipsch iGroove SXT is a great dock that does everything I need it to. I have had it a few years now and it still works perfectly. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and would highly recommend it! Also posted on ciao under the username shabbating. by TobyD After having this product for about 3 years i think it about time it got reviewed so here we go! The igroove is a sub £100 speaker system that delivers excellent quality on a wide variety of music genres. The design is very eye catching and is a definite conversation starter. These are great for home usage and if you are ... hosting a small social occasion. Looks The igroove system look unlike any other speaker dock i have ever seen. It curves elegantly in a sleek black design and will enhance the look of your living room, desk or wherever you decide to put it. It is heavy and does take up a fair amount of space so be wary of that. It has a carrying handle on the back for moving it around but i would only recommend moving it around your house as it is a bit to heavy to be a portable speaker system. It tuns of the mains and looks even better when an iPod is docking. It comes with an equally curvaceous remote which looks eye catching along with the speakers. Functionality These speakers carry a lot of bass with them and are good for drum and bass. However saying this they have suited every genre of music i have thrown at them over the years and that has been plenty. There are three buttons along the bottom of the speaker dock which are volume up, volume down and also a power on and on button which goes green when they are off and red when they are on standby. They still charge your iPod when o standby mode which is a pod feature. I would have liked to see more buttons like a skip song or even a bass button which is also my feeling with the remote. It has pause play and change song along with volume adjustment and power on/off functions. I think that more buttons could have easily been fitted onto the remote. This speaker system is designed for iPods and iPhones as it has a 30pin connector dock in the bottom but i t also comes with an adapter so you can play music through any device with a 3.5mm headphone socket. Sound The sound is usually the main reason to buy a speaker dock and these do not disappoint in that area. From the moment i started using them till now i have always been impressed with the quality of sound. I use these speakers to listen to podcasts when i go to bed everyday and the audio is always crisp and clear. When playing music they also shine with rick sound and large amounts of bass. Surprisingly everything i have put through this dock has sounded good so don't worry about the quality when buying these speakers. Price They price they are at on amazon is an incredible deal i picked them up for £79 but they are as low as £69 at the moment so grab them while these low prices remain as at one point they rose to about £100. They are really good for the price and have great value for money. You pay for a medium quality product but revive a very high quality one and i cannot praise the price of these enough. My Thoughts I would recommend these speakers to anyone who loves music and wants a good dock for the home and are not willing to break the bank. Read the complete review |

Klipsch iGroove SXT WWI iPod Speaker System
by 85fiona I love my ipod, it is constantly in my jacket pocket so I can listen to it when I'm out and about or in my car, sometimes I even listen to it in my flat when I'm doing the cleaning or the ironing, I just love listening to music. I got this ipod speaker for Christmas and it is definitely a brilliant present for a music lover ... and ipod owner. The speaker system itself is relatively small and compact at about 12" across but delivers a big sound! The speaker is mainly black with a silver trim and has 3 control buttons on top, volume up/down and an on off button. The control buttons are a good size and protrude slightly from the surface so they can be found easily by just touch. The buttons respond well when pressed and the power on/off button glows blue when the speaker is on and orange when it is off. The speaker is mains powered with a long power cable similar to a laptop charging cable although it does not have a battery so can only be used when plugged in. The speaker also comes with a remote control, this can be used to switch it on/off, play/pause the music, turn the volume up and down and skip backwards and forwards through tracks on the ipod, this is a very useful feature as it saves you from having to fiddle with the actual ipod itself when you want to change tracks and you can control the system from the other side of the room without having to get up. You can only use the remote to skip through songs on a play list though, it cannot be used to change playlist or album or whatever. The sound quality from the speakers is good, the sound is clear and crisp and for such a small unit it can deliver a very loud sound! It does not have the best bass range in the world but that is to be expected as it doesn't have a separate sub woofer or anything so if you are looking for something with more bass quality then you would be better with something different. The speaker comes with several adaptors so all types of ipod and iphone can be used with it, I have an ipod video which fits in without an adaptor. The speaker charges the ipod as well when it is plugged in which is handy for me as I use my ipod a lot which runs the battery down and am always misplacing the computer charging cable! The speakers also have an s-video socket on the back which can be used to play videos stored on your ipod on your tv or computer monitor (I haven't tried this out so can't comment on how well it works) there is also an aux in socket on the back so you could hook it up to your computer or cd player, again I haven't tried this out so cannot comment. The speaker system is available on amazon for about £80 with an rrp of £130 which is very reasonable for such a good wee speaker system.
