I received this P.C speaker set one year as a Christmas gift. The product is a 2.1 sound system. The 2.1 indicates that there are two "satellite" speakers which are in layman's terms simply the speakers and the .1 indicates a sub woofer is included. With this sort of budget speaker set it is vital to have a subwoofer as you receive no bass from the satellite speakers. I instantly loved the appearance of the speakers, with there glowing bright blue stands and the accompanying blue light on the subwoofer system. The sound quality is very good for the price tag up to a certain point. Listening at standard levels then the speakers perform very well but once you reach the higher levels of sound, the bass becomes crackly and overpowers the speaker sound and there is also some general crackling, especially if the volume control is altered slightly. This problem can be reduced, when turning up the general volume, if you turn down the bass level slightly then there is a more balanced sound. Even with correct bass levels at the highest volume these speakers aren't really THAT loud and are insufficient for party levels of sound and if you really want a full on music experience. If connected to a P.C then there are a lot of wires to be catered for and it can be a bit hectic getting them connected up and then if you move the speakers at any point, prepare to become confused as to what goes where.
Overall: Very good quality for the price but if you're looking for high clarity sound at high decibel levels then spend that extra bit more for speakers more capable of producing louder, crisper sounds.
My computer is poor when it comes to having good sound and that I think is a common theme with laptops they never seem to be able to generate enough volume from the speakers for anyone to hear them.
I found some Advent speakers on a special deal for £20 in an electrical store just over a year ago reduced from £50. The speakers at first were a risk as I am not the type of person to buy items from branded names I have never really heard off before.
You have with these set just two speakers they are standing and are done in a silver colour. There are two places where the sound comes out from on each speaker along with the name Advent written on them both.
The bottom stand of each speaker is plastic which is clear and is quite sturdy and remains very much in place as well. The speakers are also not that thick and are at best just 2 inches in thickness and the stand is 3 inches at the bottom.
Next comes the power unit and perhaps the biggest influence on how good these speakers are. This is the sub-woofer which is very powerful and offers the best amount of volume for the speakers. With this huge main sub-woofer unit you have a few features on there.
The first is the power and volume control mixed into one. If you turn the volume down to nothing the power goes off. If you turn the volume up you obviously hear that through the sound levels. You then have above the volume control the base control.
If you turn the base control up it makes the room bounce because it adds extra volume but it makes everything seem louder. A simple piece of music which is on quite a normal sound level sounds much better if you turn the base up on these speakers.
The sub-woofer unit is black and has grey as the colour to highlight the important pieces. The speakers are 16w each which is decent but they sound even louder than this when you get them working.
Now I will mention some of the smaller problems with this item as there are a few. The first is that although in the pictures they look kind of stylish to me anyways they hide the amount of wires you need for these. You have four wires overall which are all over the place because the 2 separate speakers have 2 wires running to the main subwoofer and this can cause mayhem.
The wires are coloured coded so you are aware which wire goes to which speaker but it is the length of the wires which is the problem as this means you need to hide them and what I had to do was us a cable tie to assist me in this issue. The next problem is that the speakers can be difficult to set up accordingly.
I put the subwoofer in the middle of my desk and either side is the speakers but the sound is not the best if you follow this method the sound seems to get lost. I found that if I get the speakers and put them closer together the volume sounds much better so you have issues with regards as to how far apart they can be.
I do love the blue lights on the speakers because they add a bit of style to them especially at night time because they glow up which is nice. I think the subwoofer is very powerful although I cannot find the exact figures to accompany that subwoofer but if you place your hand on top of it then you feel the vibrations.
The weight of the product altogether is 454g but I suspect that is slightly higher than this but as you can see they are very light in weight which is another added bonus in my view for someone who wants a set of speakers which are light in weight and quite durable.
The input is analogue and there are no USB connections or iPod connections. This perhaps is a downside which in my view it is because I have an iPod and the iPhone so it would have been great if it had these two features.
You're connected via a mains plug and this is very big and bulky so it is something you need to place securely as it could easily pop out of the mains. Overall the product does produce great sound, looks very stylish and does have an amazing sub-woofer.
It is the wires which bother me as there are too many and they need to be shorter and easier to store away if possible.
