There is no question that this is a good system, but it might leave you wanting a little more. If you've got the cash to go up a step, you might be happy you did. Otherwise, this one will give you what you paid for. It gives you a bang for your buck. It is not like some higher end speaker systems but it isn't there with the price range also. You get the sound of quality you paid for and after this you will go back to altec lansing products. It is a great 5.1 system for anyone that enjoys listening to music at the moderate volume and that is the best range for this product. You will get surround sound for very little money. It also has very attractive design and it looks very mature. Even though there were certain features that were unavailable (like fine tuning the subwoofer), I like the quality of sound I got for the few bucks I shelled out. You also get long cords with it so positioning speakers across a large room is no problem. Small size makes these speakers very discrete and you can easily conceal them around the room. Also make sure that you put the wires connectors deep in to the holes because one speaker wasn't working because I didn't push the connector to he end.
All in all: wonderful 5.1 speaker system for the money and it's price range, you also get a remote which will make enjoying the music easier than getting up to tune the volume.
Just inherited these off of my brother and am very impressed with them. As you will probably know, they are 5.1 speakers which is ideal for what I need. The sound quality is great! My brother bought them new for £49.99 from Amazon a while back which is a very good price for 5.1 as these days, the latest Logitech model of similar spec is £68.53 reduced from £79.99.
They have the option to go for the separate input with three separate cables at the back (Rear, Sub woofer and Front) or the simple AUX input which is ideal for an iPod/mp3 player or laptop. The only disadvantage of the aux input is you can't get the full potential out of the speakers which was a little disappointing as I can barely hear certain parts on "Stereo" songs such as Black Sabbath's Crazy Train. However if you use the other input they really are great.
Another thing I like about them is the simple cable design which instead of speaker inputs/jacks, they just have open end wires which are clamped into position. This for me makes cable management easier. They cables are also colour coordinated with grey wires for rear speakers, red for front and blue for centre. The sub woofer on these speakers is insane, makes the whole floor shake! I would definitely recommend these speakers especially to someone who doesn't want to spend to much but is looking for superior sound quality.
One final thing, is how easy they were to set up, just plug and play. The remote control is really useful as well as you can raise/lower the volume of the sub woofer, centre and rear speakers separately.
Bought speakers from currys for £39.99 on boxing day.
Sales staff thought i had got the price wrong until they went onto there own website and realised they had £20 knocked off the price in the sale. Salesman said he would buy some himself as they were to good to miss out on especialy with employee discount.
When i installed speakers it was a dodle because they just have bare ends instead of plugs and the speakers have ample wire length which my old speakers didnt.
Remote control is fantastic and it makes it evem easier to setup.
Great sound for a great price couldn't be better
