I love listening to music, and my iPod so when I saw this Apple iPod Hi-Fi, I knew it was a must buy.
Once I bought the Hi-Fi, I immediately had to try it out, so I plugged in my iPod and started BOOMING my music! I loved the Hi-Fi itself, I thought that the quality of the speakers were great, would probably struggle to find a decent Hi-Fi for this amount of money. The Hi-Fi definitely gives a great sound when plugging in your iPod, great for annoying the neighbours (or your parents for that matter!)
Unfortunately, I'd say the only thing that let this down for me is that it doesn't have such a large screen, so sometimes I have to squint to see the words, my bad vision doesn't help. None the less, I think that the product is definitely a great buy and a great value for money. The screen being small isn't such a big problem for somebody who can see medium sized letters easily.
I hope that you find this product just as good as I have, and that you enjoy listening to your music! Thanks for reading.
Now this speaker looks a little too 'rave party in a disused warehouse' design for me to put in my front room. The exposed sub woofer is a little too much for me.......and that was my first thought, but I persevered and bought the bugger anyway.
This speaker is made specifically for Ipods so you`ll have no worries making sure one might fit. I have to admit that it has grown on me and Im beggining to think it looks very stylish and fits well with the other style icons , that of the ipod itself. Its plainly minimalistic white body goes well with my white ipod and with a black one I also have. But if you had a coloured ipod I think that it might clash. Ipods of any size fit into the port, Nano, the old brick type ipods that weigh a tone and the shuffles. I dare say iphones would fit as well but I dont have one and dont know whether they have the bus-port required. The plastic design may look flimsy but it really is durable and robust, it cuts down on the echo and vibration thats brough about by large amount of bass that you would get on smaller models. The thick resin construction cuts down on distortion.
As you would expect from a product of this quality the speaker system provides a sound that is truly great and very refined. Its fairly big for an Ipod dock, Ive seen smaller and ive got a zeppelin in the front room which is
sizably bigger, but its size lends itself well to pumping out powerful music, in that it has the back up and the sheer bass to make an effect and its easy size means it can be quite easy to transport and ive found it extremely useful at parties. It also easy to use all you need to do is plug a jack lead into the headphone socket of the ipod and you can aslo connect further more elaborate and comprehensive speaker systems if you want to make this Ipod station part of a bigger set up, say at a family party in a town hall or something.....but on second thoughts one might be better off with a standard amplifier. But it does weigh a bit, i`ll give it that.
This dock is amde up of two tweeters (they control the treble), a central cone which helps with amplification and gives that resonating effect and negates echo, and two sub woofers so you all know what these do....BASS IN YER FACE ! So you have a great range of noise.
The reomte only need one button battery and will last I think a year or two even with managable use. It keeps things basic to navigate , shuffle, volume, pause....all that. You also get 'tone control' consisting of Bass Booster and Treble Booster, there is no graphic equalizer here. But the lack of features on the remote is a down point and definately a disadvantage, it is also very small and the plastic moulding feesl a little shambolic and not as robust as the main unit. There are also no way of telling what you are doing. There is no LCD screen to tell you what you are doing...you simply have to listen...simply but dissapointadly this unit makes you work to move it.
You can pick one of these up from amazon from around £150 to £180 and that places it at around the mid to high range of docking stations. But you will only get one second hand, I believe you cannot buy these new anymore. So watch out for inferior second hand dealers.
I now takes pride of place in my bedroom as its a little too 'bangin' for my front room but it does a fantastic job of playing my music for me on lazy sunday afternoons.
I am addicted to music, that`s no secret, and with that I expect a lot from the equipment that delivers my music out into the air, these speakers from Apple doing so superbly! Then again, Apple always delivers amazing products, setting the bar ever so high for compeeting brands, and so I expected a lot and was awarded a lot!
The most important thing to mention about these speakers is the amazing sound quality! I have to say that I was blown away by how crystal clear and amazing the sound came out, from the deep bass to gentle tunes of jazz or opera, I do believe that this equipment tackles it all superbly! The balance between effects is amazing and the presentation comfortable and amazing to listen to, so for the audio quality alone, this product is well worth the money!
In between all the praise, I will mention one minor disadvantage, being that the remote control in my opinion could benefit from being a bit larger, as it`s very small and with that no difficulty to loose! And also, you cannot do everything with the remote control, and you have to use the iPod to say chance tunes and albums, which I think one should be able to do with the remote control...
Now, back to the good stuff! As always, this product from Apple comes with a grand and very modern design, its plastic exterior looking very nice and pairing up nicely with other Apple products, and all though plastic might make it sound a bit... cheap, this is thick and very solid plastic, and I have no doubt that this is a solid and sturdy product, and it looks to die for!
One other thing that I sometimes miss when using this speaker, is a small screen to inform me what`s playing... All though I know it by heart or can of course listen to the music to tell, it would have been nice with a screen informing me of things such as the track, artist and so on, as you have to use the iPod to do so...
But all in all, this is a tremendous, very good quality product once again from Apple, and it will certainly present your music in a very good way, making it easy for me to recommend it! it can be purchased for a cost between 85.99-90.55 pounds, and to me, it has been worth the money! A superb product!
Apple always create amazing products, and this is no exception. It's simple to operate, has a few useful features and has sensational sound. However, it is very heavy, and the included Apple Remote is very basic and small. The product is the first venture for Apple into the home speaker market, but with the iPod they have been associated with sound for a very long time. With the product no longer available, this review serves to help people who are looking to buy a used item, as they are readily available.
First, the sound. It is simply amazing and very clear. I can even tell the difference between the sound quality of the product, compared to a set that costs at least half the price and I'm not a music expert by any means. It includes a powerful amplifier, two speakers and a subwoofer. These work marvellously, and create some fantastic sound that matches the best concerts or even more expensive options, such as those from Bose and other companies. It is very clear, and there is no distortion at all. The bass is enhanced, and really brings out the sound to create a personal concert to make you feel like you are sitting in the front row at a music concert, it really is that good. Professional sound quality for the home!
The plastic makes it look really good, as it matches the white Apple plastic perfectly, but also serves to reduce vibration. It works. On other HiFi sets, the table or cabinet the product sits on can sometimes vibrate and create noise, sometimes so bad that it looks like the product will fall off, and on the floor. However, this is different. There is little, if no vibration on a similar surface. Also, the plastic is very thick. This serves to reproduce recorded sound without unwanted colouration or distortion. This is a similar effect that wood creates. On other plastic speakers, you can get distortion as the housing is thin plastic. This is worth the money, with near perfect sound quality.
The design is fantastic, and incredibly cool. It matches existing Apple products, so it won't look out of place. The design is also very modern. However, the design with the iPod at the top can make it hard to position on a shelf, as the product is very tall and requires you to move the iPod, before moving the product sometimes, which can be rather annoying. The design includes two handles, so that you can carry the product, but it is rather heavy, so it is hard to see how it is 100% portable.
The remote is rather small, meaning it can be easy to lose. However, it also lacks some features, so you have to go up to the iPod to change album, or the settings. This can be rather annoying, as you may have to stop what you are doing. On the other hand, this does make it easy to use, as there is no way you can go wrong, and it is quick to select what you want.
A bad thing is that the product only includes an iPod dock, which means it doesn't have a radio, and other things, that similar products do include.
The iPod dock is also only fully compatible, with the older iPod's. It will play the music, but with the iPod's it is fully compatible with, it adds a new settings option, so that you can change some of the bass and other things. Also, it will charge the iPod.
Next, the HiFi doesn't include a small screen. This means it is hard to see what is playing, unless you remember, or go up to the iPod and switch it back on, as the screen will dim after no use.
In conclusion, the HiFi is simply outstanding. It includes tremendous sound, at all volumes, and the limiting software means that the speakers won't get damaged. However, the remote is quite basic, the HiFi doesn't have a screen and is very heavy. Overall though, it is worth it to have professional quality sound in your home. Terrific.
The Apple iPod Hi-Fi is a fantastic addition to your whole "ipod collection". it is stylish and continues the whole ipod theme with its reflective white body. the speaker system provides a sound that is truly unexpected for its size and i have found it extremely useful at parties due to its easy transportability. you can also plug a jack lead into the headphone socket of the ipod and connect further speaker systems (if you require them) whilst still playing through the dock. the dock incorporates two tweeters, one central cone and two sub woofers soo it is suitable for playing the most bass filled selection from your itunes aswell as higher tones...or both at once. the dock is of course universal for the whole ipod range and i have used it with the 30, 60 and 80GB models. the feature i find most useful however is the remote that i supplied with the dock and is equally ipod-like in appearance and the controls appear similar to that of teh ipod. the remote takes one button battery and has shown no sign of giving up after months of extensive use! it is great to be able to change track and navigate the ipod from the other side of the room or the sofa! the latest ipod range gives you access to a display mode that automatically puts on a full-screen version of the album art that goes with the song you're listening to (if available) after about several seconds. You also get "tone controls", which consist of nothing more than a Bass Booster and Treble BoosterI admit, I had been hoping for a graphic equalizer. You can also switch between several different backlight modes to suit the mood. prices range from around £160 upto £200 as far as i have seen although i think the lower of the prices was in dixons wher i bought mine. i would recommend this dock if you wish to share your music with others...its the best way to do it as well as the most stylish!
