Advantages: Great price, impressive sound quality, bass controls separate from volume

Disadvantages: No UK plug, speakers won't turn on if controls aren't very firmly pressed in

This is the second speaker system that I have bought for my PC. The first was made by a company called Kenyo and it was a 2.0 set. The sound produced was extremely weak compared to this Creative system.

It is 2.1, so the bass really packs a punch. However, if you don't want to upset family members or neighbours, there is a handy control for the bass (independent of the volume). There is a long wire from this control, so you can have the bass speaker underneath your desk and still be able to access it.

The downside is that I, at first, believed the speakers to be faulty, but it turns out that the lead for the controls has to be VERY firmly plugged in to the bass speaker. Mine also came with a European lead as opposed to a UK one, but a converter was supplied, so it was all easy enough to set up.

I've found that this is suitable for all genres, from classical and easy listening to heavy rock. It's good that the two satellite speakers have stands because it elevates the sound and brings it closer to ear level. The satellite speakers have two separate parts, the main bit and the small filter, which delivers satisfyingly ever twinge in the sound, an excellent complement to the booming bass.

If you want some loud speakers, you might find that these look puny, but they are not! I mostly use the 3 setting when there are people in the house or next door whom I don't want to disturb. Otherwise, if I want loud music on my own, I might go as far as 6. The MAX setting is more than 8 and I find this unbearable in my bedroom, yet there is no distortion at high volume even from MP3 files, which are compressed. So this would be great if you wanted to do a disco set-up on a budget or throw a house party.

Everything plugs into the subwoofer - very easy - and the lead from the subwoofer is a standard 3.5mm audio jack. Not only can it be plugged into a PC, but also into any headphone jack.

Summary: Unbeatable at this end of the market
