This is a set of 7.1 speakers designed to be connected to your PC's sound card.
7.1 means that you get 7 speakers with the .1 referring to the sub woofer which generates the bass. The sub woofer is the large box that connects to the mains and is designed to be kept out of sight under your desk.
The speakers are relative small which allows you to have three on your desk and the other four discretely placed around the room. Finding some where to put the side speakers can be a pain though however you don't have to use them all. The unit has a switch on the back which allows you to either use 5, 6 or 7 speakers - this is useful as gives more flexibility dependant on the shape of you room.
The number of speakers does mean running lots of cables around the room and this is the main disadvantage. Although the cables are fairly thin and can be tacked to the wall (I have hidden them under the carpet though).
The unit connects to the three outputs on your sound card. The leads are colour coded but its worth sticking labels on them to correspond to the connectors on the sound card as if you ever unplug them it can be a pain to get them back in the right order.
The sound quality is excellent especially in a smaller room - the bass in particular can be very powerful (this can be controlled via the wired remote). It works better for games than movies though but overall you are unlikely to get better sound quality for the money.
Creative Inspire T7900 7.1 Surround Sound Speakers
Into listening to music? Films and/or gaming on your PC? Well here is the ultimate surround sound speaker set! As we all know the sound quality of music, films and games provides a great percentage of the enjoyment of them and with the Creative Inspire T7900 7.1 surround sound speakers the enjoyment can become pure sound wave bliss!
If your anything like me and have bought or built a computer to handle all your entertainment needs then no doubt you have some kind of speaker or speakers , well I'm assuming you have or the point of an entertainment system would be pretty pointless! Even if you just enjoy music or films and what not on a standard PC I recommended the use of some decent speakers as this can bring new life to even the most oldest and dullest of PC's.
I know some people reading this review may not be "computer geek literate" so ill try to explain in the most simplest way I can of what I mean by certain things along the way. When it comes to using speakers in your PC there are many choices to choose from whether being plugged directly into your motherboard (the main circuit board that processes all the individual components such as the CPU, GPU, RAM, Hard drive etc. basically the clever little team leader that makes all the employees inside your computer work together and produce the events you tell it to do) or into a dedicated sound card (a clever piece of hardware that connects to your motherboard and takes and handles all the processing of sound that your speakers will produce) the sound improvement of these speakers will defiantly catch the attention of the next door neighbor or someone within your household.
I'm not going to get into all the tech stuff as most of it is listen on the overview of this product. The main thing I will be talking about is how much better my entertainment urges where filled by Creatives Inspire T7900 speakers. I use my computer mostly for music, films and games (not counting work related and social related aspects) and as mentioned before a great sound performance is needed for these 3 things to become fully enjoyable (or at least I think so). When I 1st bought this set of speakers I was in the process of upgrading my computer hence the reason for some better sound quality :). so naturally all excited I plugged them into my computer (into motherboard sound ports) and booted up and slapped on some Journey, Don't Stop Believin! As soon as the song came on I was damn impressed with the improvement of quality and thought OK lets see if it stays the same quality at a higher volume (as some speakers tend to crackle and lose quality at higher volume levels) so I did, slowly but surely I kept increasing the volume and the sound stayed at the same super high quality output!
As mentioned above I was in the process of upgrading my PC so I went out and bought a mid range sound card also by Creative having heard combining Creatives speakers with a creative 7.1 sound card would increase the quality of the sound even more! Bearing in mind I was pretty impressed with the sound on my standard motherboard but as I was wanting the best gaming performance possible I needed to take as much processing power away from my CPU as I could so a sound card would be perfect as it will handle the sound processing (obviously) while the CPU could get on with its over tasks much easier. So after installing the sound card and its drivers I was ready to test the Inspire T7900 speakers once again and oh my god I feel in love! (yes I fell in love with my PC and now my Girlfriend would become second best :P) The sound was amazing and with it being all 7.1 surround sound I didn't know which way to turn as all around my head sounds of pure awesome Iron Maiden riffs and solos where blasting out all around me, I was in metal heaven.
After reading many tips and setting preferences on the Interweb I decided to try them out so heading into my setting controls for my sound card I found many enhancing features from the obvious sound boosting and bass levels to more compelling EAX settings and after turning these on and applying the settings I fell of my chair yes out of no where yet again the quality and volume of the speakers became louder, clearer and damn right frikin awesome!
I'm sorry if I have gone on a while now and some of you may still be confused at what I am trying to get at, I promise ill make it easy to understand soon enough but before that I will just describe what the Creative Inspire T7900 set includes. Within the set are 2 front speakers (left and right), a center speaker (front center), 2 side speakers (left and right), 2 rear speakers (left and right) and a fairly biggish sub woofer for those heavy bass songs that you just have rock out too! The set also comes with a handy remote that lets you change the bass and volume of the sound without accessing the sound settings on your computer as well as including a handy ear phone jack in the side it perfect for those late nights.
OK here goes final stretch approaching I promise!
All in all these speakers are amazing they add so much sound wave pleasure to your ears whether it be on a simple basic computer or a fully kitted out one with sound card support. Obviously you might have realised the sound quality of these beasts are best used in conjunction with a Creative sound card as the sound card its self can process much better sound quality and give a huge advantage for the speakers to add there touch of magic to. These Creative Inspire T7900 add so much more pleasure to listening to music, films and games. Its so hard to get across how much a simple addition can make such a difference.
So thats it really these speakers are amazing and will make many true hard core geeks very, very happy as well as the casual user just looking for a truly magical sound experience. I got mine for around £59.99 but that was a couple of years back and this is the reason for this review really these speakers are still going strong and I wont have the urge to upgrade them for many more years to come! Great buy! Great experience!
Advantages - Great sound quality, Great volume output (max setting is like being in a night club its that loud), Great looks, easy to access sound controller, provides a top of the range sound experience, good value for money, As good as top of the range surround sound speakers that can anything from £100 or more!
Disadvantages - Wired so plenty of cable ties will be needed in certain layout situations.
