I have my TV in the bedroom and there is limited space for speakers so I decided to get a 2.1 set. I had a few basic requirements which I on paper the Edifier C2 met:
- Under £50
- Wireless remote
- Good in build as well as sound quality
From the reviews I read this seemed to tick all the boxes. Once it finally arrived, I experienced the first (and only) problem. The wireless remote also changed channels and switched off my Comag satellite receiver!! This is not good when trying to change volume, bass or treble. Or mute it, which switched it off! Of course, the sat receiver's remote also changed things on the speaker's amp. Not good. Fortunately, the amp can be adjusted manually.
Putting that slight problem aside, I found the sound quality excellent. The bass was a bit high, but I took it down to -2 and it was fine. What a difference it makes though, the sound is much clearer that the TV speakers. Frank Gallagher's accent sounds quite different compared to listening on the TV speakers.
One other slight problem is the volume, bass and treble are set to defaults which don't seem to be changeable. This is unfortunately and means I need to keep changing the volume every time I switch it on.
I connected the amp up via stereo RCA, but there is also a 3.5mm jack. I connected via the stereo RCA using some cables with gold plated connectors. The sub is about 6.5" and there are two satellite speakers. They are a bit bigger than I expected but not too big. All the equipment feels solid, well built. They can be connected to two sources so it's always possible to connect a TV and a PC, for example.
I will probably replace the amp with an AV Receiver in a couple of months but I'll definitely keep the speakers. The sound quality is excellent for such a low price. They are ideal for connecting to a TV/DVD/Blu Ray if you are wanting 2.1.
