Member Name: louisechackett
Advantages: cheap, well made, looks nice
Disadvantages: sligh crackle if turned right up
My PC speakers had been dying for quite a while really. I think they were some my ex brought home from the school he worked at because they always looked a little old but they died a death eventually after falling off my computer table countless times as I pulled it across the room when I was being lazy and watching the vampire diaries through my computer in bed! As such I needed to purchase some new speakers and I have to say that I am not very technical and so I just headed to amazon where I seem to buy most things from these days and browsed the speakers available. I will admit I was looking for something cheap and cheerful and so I purchased the Genius SP-S100 speakers in black for around £7! They are currently selling for £7.58 on amazon should you be interested.
The speakers arrived just a few days after I placed my order which was a good thing as I was getting fed up of playing song pop on facebook with only the tiniest bit of sound and so subsequently getting beat off everybody! They come packed in a small red box which shows a picture of them on the front as well as telling us that they are multimedia stereo speakers for desktop. On the reverse of the box there is a more detailed picture of the speakers which illustrates which part plugs in to the back of the PC as well as what the power cord looks like!
I opened the box up and whilst there is a small instruction leaflet provided in the box I didn't feel the need to use it as I think connecting these speakers is pretty self explanatory to be honest. There is an audio cord with a green plastic end part which slots in to the green hole on the back of the computer and then the power cord needs to be plugged in to the mains. I actually have an adapter which I use for a lot of my computer plugs which sits just under the computer desk and so I used this to plug the speakers in to as the cord isn't very long so this may be an issue for some people. Whilst I discuss cord length I have to point out that the cord which connects the two speakers is only around 50cm long and whilst this isn't a massive issue for me I have to say I wish it was longer so I could place the speakers comfortably where I want them. They do both sit on either end of my computer table but my table is quite small and so those with a larger space may find the small cord off putting.
The black speakers are around 17cm tall and made from a black plastic. For the price I don't think they feel or look cheap and I fully expect them to last me quite some time as they seem to be a good quality. On one speaker there is a volume button as well as a power button and a space to insert headphones to the speaker should you wish to. It is easy to tell if the speakers are on as there is a green led light on the front of the speaker which lights up when there is power to the speakers.
In terms of sound quality I have to say I was pretty impressed with these small inexpensive speakers. I like to listen to music quite often whilst I work at my computer and will belt out music from my media player when I am getting ready for a night out or cleaning or something and so I do use my speakers quite a lot. These speakers don't offer poor sound quality or any hissing or buzzing as you listen for the most part and the only time I notice a reduced sound quality is if I turn it right up to the loudest possible setting on both the computer and the speakers and then it sometimes sounds a little crackly. Whilst I do like my music loud I don't have to have it too loud that I experience the crackling and so I am really happy with the quality of these cheap speakers and I would certainly recommend them if you are looking for something cheap yet effective. I have had these speakers a good few months now and they are giving me no reason to believe they wont last me a very long time indeed.
Thank you for reading my review!
Summary: A good simple speaker which suits my needs fine
