Advantages: Super quality sound.
Disadvantages: a little old fashioned looking.
I would like to write about something that means rather a lot to me. I was silly enough to buy speakers that were fashionable, and recently noticed the quality of sound was lacking, and the only good thing about the speakers was their looks. This came about because I have moved and in my new house, I have more space, and therefore can up the volume without the sound drowning me out of the room.
I love music. It is very important to me, and listening to it is part of my relaxation. Therefore, to me sound is important. I also like gaming and the sounds on the computer are also important for this to be a pleasurable experience.
Somehow the new fangled speakers let me down, and I went to where I store all of my old accessories, and picked out the Harmon Kardon speakers that came with my computer from Dell, plugged them in and rebooted my computer.
These are not fancy looking although they are a similar grey to my other computer components and whilst they don't have a booster box or anything particularly fancy, what they do have, and I am amazed at this after so long not using them, is sound quality.
The speakers are simple to install, and their function is pretty basic, but what they offer you is a tone button so that you can set your preference with added or diminished base, a volume button, and a headset jack point which is very handy because it means that when I am listening at night, I do not disturb anyone.
The speakers are reasonably discreet and do not take up a lot of room on the desk. They have a light which is illuminated when they are switched on.
INSTRUCTION MANUAL
Very basic but sufficient for my needs, making installation easy.
MANUFACTURERS SUPPORT
Never needed it. They are superb speakers.
DESIGN
Here the speakers are a little old fashioned looking but I decided that sound was more important to me than looks.
But how do they compare with other speakers ? Having tried other speakers, and having used various computers with other makes, I think these are probably the best I have ever heard. They certainly do not distort at volume and the quality of sound is really every bit as good as my hifi speakers and I have to admit I use them more than the hi fi these days simply because they are there next to me.
Techie stuff
System Type PC
Max Frequency Response 20 kHz
Min Frequency Response 80 Hz
If you are looking for good quality speakers and like music, then I would suggest that at £11.99, these are a serious contender to the market, and Dell obviously think so too, as they are provided as standard with their Dimension computers.
These are super and I thoroughly recommend them for sound quality and durability.

- 04/09/05 I'm ashamed of my 1990's speakers but I hardly ever listen to music at home so cannot justify the expense of a new stereo. |

- 02/09/05 This wasn't your best review, but like katygriff says, speakers aren't really the most interesting of subjects, so you did well! ~ Pete |
