An iPod and IPhone dock for £29.99 by hp

      *****WHAT IS IT?*****

iWantit iPHPORT10 portable dock is a nifty iPod and iPhone dock by Hewlett -Packard (hp). The iPhone is placed into the middle of the dock and the 2 x 1W stereo speakers then surrounds it.

*****WHICH MODELS OF IPOD AND IPHONE IT PLAYS*****

It plays Ipod Nano 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th generation as well as iPod Touch 1st generation, iPod Classic 80GB, iPod Touch 2nd generation and iPhone 2G, 3G, 3Gs and 4. I think it is great that it allows for the older generations as well as the newer ones.

Throughout the review I will just refer to the iPhone since that is what I use it with.

      *****WHAT COMES IN THE BOX*****

In the box comes the main black and silver rimmed docking station. The station has a section in the middle which you press to release to then slot the iPhone into, then press it to slot it back into the docking station. I much prefer the look of this compared with other docking stations I have seen where the iPhone just sits on stand.

Also in the box comes an AUX IN cable to connection to other audio devices. There is also a mains adapter and interchangeable black cushions (there are five of them) to allow the different versions of the iPod and iPhone to be connected. These cushions are simply pushed into the middle section of the docking station and there is a table in the instructions manual which tells you which cushion is required for your particular version.

      *****ADDITIONAL BENEFITS*****

To allow the docking station to be portable there is a place at the back to put batteries in. It requires four AA batteries. There is an adjustable, foldaway stand on the back of the docking station. This allows you to change whether you have your iPhone portrait or landscape. At the top of the docking station is the AUX IN socket, the volume buttons and power on/off. However, this can also be done in the same way through the iPhone. The docking station also charges the iPod but only with the mains adapter.

When the iPhone is placed into the docking station it instantly starts playing from where it was previously left off meaning it is very quick and easy to use.

*****WHAT I LOVE AND HATE ABOUT THE DOCKING STATION*****

I love that it is small enough to travel with (approximately 13cm by 13cm). I love that it can take batteries or be mains supplied. I also love the sound quality of the speakers, they are very crisp and not muffled in the slightest. It is fantastic that it charges whilst playing the music because my iPhone loses charge so quickly. However, the thing that does annoy me is that I have a case on my phone and I have to remove the case each time to slot my iPhone into the docking station. However, this is probably the same with other docking stations particularly as my case it very thick. It is even more annoying that my case is extremely difficult to remove because it can take a lot of impact if I drop it. So I end up breaking at least one of my nails trying to remove the case every time (so I usually have to find someone in the house to remove it for me).

      *****WHEN I RECEIVED IT*****

I received it for Christmas off my dad. I could tell he had struggled buying me things this year but this particular present I was quite pleased with. I live between my mums, dads and university house so despite having a television with an integrated iPod docking system at my mum's I was without one at my dad's. I usually just play music directly off my phone or on iTunes off my laptop. However, this docking system looked perfect for me to take with me back and forth from my university house to my dad's house.

      *****PRICE AND AVAILABILITY*****

Its RRP is £39.99 however, most stockists have reduced the price to £29.99 for the January sales which I think is an absolute bargain. However, stockists are limited. My dad purchased mine from Currys and the only other shop that is said to stock it online is Dixons also at £29.99. I was very surprised to see that it is not on Play.com or Amazon which is a shame.

      *****OVERALL*****

I have only used it a handful of times when getting ready to go out at night but it really is a fantastic docking station. Very practical and it looks nice and does not take up a lot of room on my desk.
