The most ovious advantage of the JBL on stage 3 is the fact that is far more portable than many of its competitors in the market today. Furthermore the docking station runs on either batteries or connected to a mains power supply meaning it is ideal for any situation. The docking station is also comparable with all of the well known Apple IPods except for the Shuffle. Sound quality: For the price the quality is very good and I have found this to be particularly apparent at load volumes. The volume selection levels could do with work because there seem to me to be few low volume settings. On the lowest volume setting is becomes noticeable that very often a quiet muffling noise can be heard and this becomes worse when the product is playing songs at the same time as charging an IPod. That said for the price to me it outperformed expectations and at louder volumes it has the feel of a product much more expensive than what it is. Any issues? Well yes but I must say that I struggled to find many more than the two small things that could do with addressing. Firstly the muffling problem can be quite apparent at low volumes, secondly is the fact the battery usage is high. One minor design flaw is that the flat top surface of the docking station does seem to harbour dust a bit.
i recently bought this item for a real decent price of £49 from a local retail store, i had never bought a portable system before as felt no need to due to the hefty wattage on my home music system but the brother in law asked me to compile a load of music for his wedding abroad knowing that it would be for a beach party after ceremony, Before ceremony we had been in his honeymoon sweet where he had been playing his gear 4 dock station i found that this dock station was lacking a hell of a lot of any kind of music i have heard, i said to him the dock system sounds bad he agreed with the party of about 12, i offered to take round mine and mine being the jbl stage 3 just rocked. 12 watts for the speakers dont sound that good of wattage but the quality was quite clear in comparison not only to my ear but to many others, a few of the others knew of the product but bought cheeper and vowed to seek one out when they got home honestly its a beautiful dock system i soley bought for the occasion 6 AA batteries is all thats needed on top of purchase although adaptor provided for mains, batteries lasted the duration of wedding abroad which i might add the system was used quite a bit roughly about 20 odd hours even at pool side only problem for me is the noise reduction on many products of today but this was only at highest sound setting
When I asked my boyfriend for iPod speakers for Christmas, he searched high and low for the perfect ones. I did not want anything fancy, none of this glow in the dark space ship models, or something so big it needed its own sideboard. I admit I like quirky, unique looking furniture, but living at my parent's house, I just do not have the space! Just something small, compact, great sound and the ability to charge my iPhone when it is docked - JBL on Stage 3 ticked every box. In the box, you get the base unit, infrared remote, dock adaptors, power adaptor, and a 3.5mm audio cable. There is also a great black fabric zip bag to carry / store it all in. The dock adaptors allow the following iProducts to be used with the base unit; iPod nano [1st Gen) (2, 4GB) iPod nano [2nd Gen] (2,4,8GB) iPod with video 5th Gen (60,80GB) iPod Classic (160GB) 5G and U2 iPod with video (30GB) iPod classic (80GB) iPod nano video [3rd Gen] (4,8GB) iPhone (4,8GB) iPod Touch (8,16GB) The adaptors are clear plastic pieces designed to hold your iProduct in place in the base unit, though if you have a cover on your iPhone as I do, then the phone will not fit into the designated adaptor unless you remove the cover - that is not something I want to be doing every time I go to dock! I have found however that by just putting my iPhone, cover and all, straight onto the base unit without the adaptor, works fine. It does not have the rigid stability the adaptor gives, but it connects well and I have had no problems. I think the same would go for the other iProducts. If you want to connect other audio devices, such as MP3, CD, desktop and laptop computers etc, you can use the provided audio cable in the headphone jack, which connects round the back of the unit near the power button. Though designed for the iRange, it gives out amazing quality for other audio devices. The base unit itself can be powered by 6AA batteries, or, the power adaptor. I use the power adaptor, as I do not like paying out for batteries. I am not sure how long your standard AA would last in the JBL, it all depends on how much you use it. I have it located near an extension cable so it is always plugged in and ready to go. The power adaptor is quite weighty, so if I were going to take the system on holiday I would opt for batteries to save weight. The base unit is black, circular and stylish in design. 7 1/2 inches in diameter, 2inches in height, it weighs 1.12lb. Small, light and very portable! It has two silver buttons on the front for volume control and the power button is located at the back, as is the audio in and the 12v DC in. The speaker system is located in the circular frame, giving full 360 high quality sounds, as well as including four mini woofers, 2 on each side. Its design overall is extremely neat, ideal if you are looking for a speaker system that takes up little to no room. It sits quite happily on the corner of my dresser and does not get in the way at all. The sound is amazing. When I first got my iPhone, I was impressed with the sound coming from that alone, but when you dock it in the JBL, the improvement is ten-fold. It is so clear, even when you push the volume to its max (which is MAX!) the audio is still clear, hearing songs word for word, drum for drum etc. The design of the speakers means it will sound just as clear from whatever your position to the system, ideal for parties. I use it mostly of a morning to listen to podcasts and the sound quality is superb, it even seems to improve those that have been recorded poorly (much in the way a blu-ray player up scales regular DVDs). As for music, there is none of that tinny, echoing you sometimes get from small speaker systems, it plays out clear and pitch perfect. Even outdoors, it continues to impress. I have never had much luck with using smaller speaker systems outdoors but the JBL on Stage 3 gives a symphonic performance outdoors as well as in! I love the small controller that comes with the system. It is of the same black finish as the base unit, with 10 buttons. Volume control, play/pause, mute/unmute, previous/rewind, next/fast-forward, scroll up, scroll down, menu and select/enter. The remote will interact with the player from up to 20ft away, even through walls! Yes, I said walls! I have tried this myself and 9 times out of 10, it succeeded! Again, another great function if you are using this speaker system for a party. I needed my docking station to have charge functions, as these systems can usually drain your iProducts batteries, not great if you use it in the morning before you head out, only to find you have left with less than half a battery life. The JBL charges the iProduct as soon as you connect and switch on, even when you have nothing playing, it will charge. It does not charge as fast as the adaptor for the iProduct would on its own if you have music / podcasts playing, but that is because you are using the charge as it charges. If you leave the iProduct in the base unit, and do not play any music etc, it will charge faster than it would with the regular adaptor. I find it hard to find any faults on this system. It does everything I wanted. Small, lightweight, compact, stylish, charges, and outputs an amazing sound, you really cannot go wrong. For the music junkie to the teen bouncing around his or her bedroom, this product will suit everyone. Taking up little space it can easily be placed out of sight, and the controller is extremely responsive. You can find this product online from around £99; though look out for special electronic discount deals on the likes of Amazon.
