Advantages: Good sound, get two speakers, and can go very loud
Disadvantages: Mine falling apart a bit, lots of wires
I have a pair of these speakers from labtec, and they are superb. They have really simplistic controls on the front, an on/off button, and a dial that you spin clockwise to make the volume go up, and vice versa. I have found that most of the time the sound they produce are great, and i have had these for a couple of years now with only minor problems.
So what is there to like about these speakers?
Firstly, these speakers can go very loud indeed, so loud infact, that i have never had them on full volume! Whats more, is that they are very robust, and really versitile, you do not need to install drivers onto the pc in order to get them to work, just plug in and you are away!
Other things that i really like about these speakers are the way the different volumes of the speakers are well spaced out. What i mean by this is the way that a short turn on the dial makes a small difference in the sound difference. On other speakers i have used in the past, it is very difficult to get them to the right volume you want, as the slightest turn results in a huge difference in volume! Whats more, on these speakers, at high volume, the sound quality is not affected. On other speakers i have used in the past, at higher volumes, all you can hear is what can only be described as a "blur" of sounds.
The only disadvantages i have with these speakers are the number of wires. Because these speakers require a lot of power in order to work, there is a serpate lead which you need to plug into a socket as well as the pc, but this lead, coupled with the leads connecting the two speakers can leave your desk looking like a right mess.
Although the power lead can be detached from the back of the main speaker, for when you want to jiggle your hardware around and add more peripherals, plugging something like a new mouse into a computer with these speakers can be a little hairy! One final problem i am having, is that the secondary speaker is beginning to die on me, occasionally either making a dodgy noise, or cutting out completely. I think this is because the wire that connects the two speakers is a little loose, as when i give it a bit more slack, it starts working again. I think this is due to me moving it around too much, combined with how long i have had them. Overall however, they are a great pair of speakers, and i recommend them.
Summary: A good speak, they are quite robust, just mine are aging a bit :(

- 10/05/09 Great review, just one thing - try spacing it out a bit with the paragraphing, would just make it a bit easier to read! Good stuff |
