      Portable, rechargeable iPod speakers

I bought these travel speakers as we were going on an 'away from it all' holiday and I wanted to be able to use my iPod anywhere, I cannot do without my music. I have had them about 10 months now and still use them almost daily.

They are compact (325 x 102 x 32mm) and dead easy to use, with a funky little remote control that works well from a good 10 metres and a very durable travel case that packs away nicely (though it could do with a handle).

A good feature is that you can charge your iPod whilst listening to it if the speakers are plugged in, so you don't need to faff around with the computer at all if you don't want to.

The removable plasic holder for different types of iPod is a very cool idea though it is very cheap plastic, they could have used something a bit more durable and asthetically pleasing.

The instructions are easy to follow if a little misleading, it says that the speakers may take up to 5 hours to charge initially, mine took nearly 10 hours! Though once charged fully the speakers recharge pretty quickly from there on in. The speakers are supposed to give 10 hours play on the rechargeable battery and I get around 9 hours, which is not too bad.

The sound is pretty good for such small speakers, I use them at home for the iPod and at about 70% volume they are plenty loud enough for me and crystal clear, though at their loudest are a little distorted, especially when using the 3d option. That being said, they are plenty good enough for the garden, beach, picnic etc, certainly as loud as most portable CD players, and a whole heap easier to carry around and pack away. They fit nicely into a rucksack too as I have taken them away quite a lot.

Okay, not the best value for money when I bought them for £99, but with a 2 year guarantee, fair enough, and you can get them now for around £50 on some sites.

I tend to take these speakers and put them next to the bath when I have a long soak, or in the garden when I am pottering about. The black version of the speakers are asthetically much more pleasing than the white version, which look a bit tacky.

I also use these speakers when I am facilitating training events as I like to play music throughout the day. This is where the remote comes into its own.

I really rate these speakers and so do others by the way: 'Still, this is easily the best value speaker dock we've reviewed'. Computer Shopper. Downside for me is that they look a little cheaper than they actually were.

This is a much updated version of a review I placed on Ciao last year.
