I desperately needed a radio and MP3 player for our new kitchen, so the first thing I did was got on the net and had a good look around. I must say I probably spent a good few days doing so. I found the Logitech Pure-Fi Express Plus for a good price and thought it was worth a punt. Not only is it a radio/MP3 player, but it's a handy docking station that would serve my iPhone and my sons iPod well.
I wont bore you by telling you how well it was packaged and that it comes with the usual instructions, so I'll get onto the nitty gritty. You have the choice whether you want it to run off the mains with an AC adapter or 6 x AA batteries. One thing that I didn't realise it had was a super grab handle making it really easy to carry from one place to another. It has a brightly lit clock (which you can't dim) with alarm feature and a great wireless remote that I can get to work from the other end of my 7 meter room.
I popped my iPhone into the top slot which holds it in very securely and stuck a Def Leopard track on to give it a real resting out. Needless to say it lets you have a fiddle about with the EQ settings to gain maximum performance out of it. I was overjoyed to hear that it carried the sound perfectly. The bass was amazing for such a small system, and the sound was overall rich and pretty detailed. We've used it outside on several occasions and it's eaten through my supply of batteries very quickly indeed - so I'd advise to either use it on the mains or invest in some rechargeable batteries. One thing that I've never seen before on a product was that you can actually store the remote control tidily in an integrated section of the docking station.
I would recommend this docking station to those wanting to use it as an occasional player, or to take camping. Not so great if you want to use it in the bedroom as the docking units display is very bright.
Purchased from Comet for £68.99 4 years ago
I was given this as a gift at Christmas of 2009, and I always use it with my iPod touch, I love it, my music plays clearly, it is made of high quality material, it looks good, and it even has an alarm clock!
I like the look of this docking station as it is nice, modern and stylish within the home. There is a big knob on the main screen which you use to turn the volume up and down on.
The screen on the Logitech Pure-Fi Express Plus is pretty basic stuff, at the moment when I am looking at it, all I seen on the screen is the display which says 12:26.
The sound quality of this docking station is great. Very loud, and very clear. You can listen to your music, while doing the house work, ironing, cleaning etc etc and you don't notice a difference when you turn it up, still stays clear at a louder volume.
As this just sits in the same position and I leave my iPod in it, there are no scratches or marks visible on it. The knob on it is still in very good condition especially with the amount of use it has had. I leave my iPod in the dock all the time because I have another one which I keep on my person.
As this was a gift I wasn't really sure of the price although at the time I think this was around £70 or £80 which in my opinion is a very good price for what you get, also as it is such a good, well known and trusted brand.
I would recommend this docking station to anyway, as it is so good and can be used for many things in the house, cleaning, tiding, dusting, ironing, sitting about, surfing the net etc.
Thanks for reading! I hope this has been of interest to you and has helped assist you in your decision.
I brought this unit after a previous cheaper speaker dock broke.I spent a while looking for a dock that i liked the look of as i feel that the look of a product is very import. I also wanted to make sure that the speaker had a good bass to them.
Look: The logitech pure-fi is a great looking bit of tech it has mesh over the speakers the side and top of the product has a flat black colour to them, the middle of the product is a high black gloss finish extending to the top of the product, in the middle of the dock there is a wheel that is used to control volume and is used to set the time and the alarm. under the wheel is a screen that shows the time and also show if the alarm is set. you have buttons to the side and under the screen these buttons are to set the music to shuffle and to set the alarm set the clock and to turn the alarm on and off, at the back of the dock there is a cut out where you can store the remote to ensure it doesn't get lost.
Sound: These little speakers let out a big sound i did not realise how tinny my macbook speakers where until i heard these they have a great base to them that vibrates though the house. The sound can fill a room very well as it has a simulated 3D sound which actually works.
Ease of Use: This dock is very simple to use this is the first clock that i have had where i do not worry when the clocks go back as all you have to do is to hold the time set button and instead of going all the way round the clock and then worrying about missing the right hour you just spin the wheel anti-clockwise and the hour goes backwards. Once you start the music playing the light around the wheel turns on and the lcd clocks becomes a bit lighter. the remote is simple to use it has the feel of the apple remote. although if you loose the remote there is no song control on the unit the only control from the unit is volume.
Disadvantages: It is not possible to set the alarm to play your music you have to use the standard beep that most clock radios have.
If you are looking for an inexpensive impressive iphone speaker dock, and don't mind not being able to use your own music as an alarm then buy this product you will not be disappointed
After looking for a bedside clock/dock for a while, I decided to purchase this Logitech one. The main reason being that it was on offer at a cheap price being ex-display at my local currys (about £30 if I remember rightly). The boxing was damaged but the speaker itself seemed brand new. I bought this about 2 years ago now and I still use it frequently.
Every night I dock my iPhone 4 to charge and also run my alarm clock, this is very handy as every morning it wakes me up with any song I choose and is at full battery. I was very impressed when I found out that it charged my iPhone 4, seeing as I bought it a couple years ago when the iPhone 3G was the newest iPhone out.
The remote control comes in handy when listening to music, allowing you to skip track, rewind, pause, play, shuffle, repeat etc. In terms of sound quality, I think it is top notch (talking in terms of price). It goes fairly loud while still maintaining sound quality.
Those who are looking for a cheap and cheerful iPod/iPhone dock, I would certainly recommend this. It will suffice for those who like music but are not mad on sound quality.
This machine works with both the iPhone aswell as the iPod and charges them both which is a brilliant feature, considering how few it has you dont miss them when using the Pure-Fi Express. Even with this being a cheaper version (being £40-ish) of many of the MP3 docking stations it manages to keep up with the big boys pumping out enough sound to shake your shelves and most things on it, off them! One of the few features it has is an alarm clock which you can either use on its own or if you have your iPod/iPhone plugged in you can use your iPhones alarm sounds, unfortunately you CAN'T wake up to music, just keep the small remote (no bigger than an index finger) close to hand and you can turn the choons on whenever you wake up and wake the rest of the street up with you! You can stick some batteries underneath for a reserve memory which will keep the clock time correct, otherwise if you unplug it you have to reset the time
Firstly....Arrived today having purchased from Amazon for under £40 as a birthday present for my hubby and I have to say we are both very impressed with this smart little system. Excellent clear quality sound, that doesn't distort and is not tinny at all, easily fills the house with crystal clear sounds. What it lacks for in features is makes up for in sound quality. Will also play 'Radio' from my iphone through the system.
This simple compact unit not only looks very smart and stylish with it black gloss coating and large silver central button that lights up orange when on, it's durable and robust feel gives the impression of quality for the cheap price. My iPhone 3GS fits in perfectly and snugly even with its silicone case on. Yes, It's a little bulky and although has the portable factor with use of batteries if required I wouldn't personally use it for that reason, fits perfectly in our lounge on a small unit.
No problems with the remote control although very small and I'm sure my 3 year will try and hide it if given the chance. Cannot fault this product for how much I paid, would happily recommend it and I might even get another one for upstairs in the bedroom as the alarm feature works very well too.
Oooooh, the logitech Pure-Fi Express Plus!
First up is the sound. Logitech says it has omnidirectional speaker technology, providing quality sound throughout the room. Which it does. The volume controls are strong and sensitive enough to cater for a party or for when I'm drifting off to sleep. What's so great is that even when I turn it up loud there is no sound distortion.
It's gorgeous, compact and extremely light which is why I found the sound quality so surprising. at the back there is a grip so you can cart it about if you want and can eiher be plugged into the wall or will run on batteries. When I first bought it, the system came with several different plastic plugs that you put in the dock depending on whichever iproduct you happen to have.
The alarm clock is a bit weedy unfortunately so I normally end up setting my iphone alarm which, if plugged in alerts me through the main speakers. My only beef with this system is with the alarm clock. What I want is for the alarm to be music from my iphone playlists but there is no way of setting this. I've seen it done on other speaker systems and it's a shame this one doesn't include that particular functionality.
The remote control is great, very dinky and has play, skip, pause, shuffle, repeat and volume functions as well as a little compartment at the pack of the machine to keep it in so it doesn't get lost.
There is a lot to recommend this system, for a low price you get an excellent quality, multi-use, aesthetically pleasing sound system which is eminently portable. For under £50.00 you are definitely getting your moneys worth and will likely be very pleased with this product.
