Advantages: Price

Disadvantages: Bass, only has volume control on unit

I bought this set because I was going to be without my normal setup for a few months. The first reason I picked this set was the price- it seemed to offer good value for money. The second reason for choosing this set was that I wanted decent bass (not a tinny, weak sound) and buying a set with a subwoofer resolved this.

-------
Uses
-------

The main purpose was to listen to music and watch DVDs through my computer. But you can use the R20 with ipods or any device with a 3.5mm headphone socket.

-------------------------
Product Description
-------------------------

* 12W RMS power (3W per channel plus 6W for the subwoofer). When choosing speakers always look for RMS power as it is a more realistic figure than other classifications. Also use the figure as a guide only.
* Volume control (on right speaker)
* Headphone jack (also on right speaker)
* 3.5mm jack (plugs into computers, ipods etc)
* Shielded satellite speakers so you can place them next to your monitor
* Ported wood subwoofer for deeper bass
* 2 year guarantee

Durability
------------

T he R20s are well built. No complaints there. I have placed my subwoofer under the desk and it can get knocked with no ill effects.

Sound Quality
------------------

Overall, they do an adequate job. The sound level goes to a decent volume, the quality of the sound is good for the money and the bass has a lot of oomph. Unfortunately, the bass has too much oomph and no control. The bass seems to 'boom' over the satellite speakers and can ruin the song. This was found when the source was a computer or ipod. Tweaking my sound settings had some success at stopping this but there are no controls on the unit itself to adjust bass etc. I followed the guidelines for subwoofer placement but this did not seem to help a great deal.

Val ue for Money & Bottom Line
---------------------------------------

Whil st cheap the unit is not cheerful. Unless you love bass above all else I would avoid this unit. They are solid and do an okay job but personally I would not buy them again.

Summary: Sometimes it is worth paying that little bit extra!
