Advantages: cheap, well packaged, good sound quality
Disadvantages: small shipping damage, quiet but noticable hum
I have owned these speakers for a little over 1 year so I have a fairly decent idea on how good these speakers really are. Mine were bought for £24.99 from www.amazon.co.uk.
The speakers are packaged very well which I was pleased with considering they were so cheap. The box they come in is big with high quality images of the product it contains. It lists the specifications that may help you in choosing the speakers. Inside the speakers are held in place by two very large polystyrene inserts. They don't move at all and feel very secure. In the box you get, the subwoofer, two satellites and some papers.
The speakers themselves feel good quality for the low price tag. The plastic covering on the wooden subwoofer was slightly damaged for me but not enough to bother me. The speakers look stylish and don't mess up the look of your desk. You can either mount the speakers onto a wall or leave them free-standing as I did. You can adjust the sound volume and plug in headphones on one of the satellites and the bass can be adjusted, but not turned off, on the back of the subwoofer.
The set up of this sound system is easy peasy. The subwoofer connects to the mains and a proprietary serial type connector connects it to the satellites. The system connects to the PC via a 3.5mm jack which is attached to one of the satellites. Audio enthusiasts may be disappointed at how the speakers connect as the proprietary connector means you won't be able to use the subwoofer with any other inputs. However from my point of view on such a cheap system it is no problem.
The sound quality is very good in my opinion. The bass is strong and doesn't muddy the sound as some other people think. There is plenty of volume to be had from this system. I have one problem with it though, when the systems has been plugged in for a while (yes just plugged in, even when you turn it off) it begins to hum. Its noticeable and means I have to reach down and switch it off at the mains after use.
In conclusion I think these speakers were a good buy for only £25. The sound quality is great; however the speaker hum is annoying.
Summary: Good buy for £25.
