Advantages: Sound quality, simple set up, great bass, decent price.
Disadvantages: None for me, but I could imagine that some people would find the minimum level of bass, too high.
For a long time I just used the standard desktop speakers that you would get with your average Dell PC. Just a pair of cheap looking Dell speakers. But they did me fine. It was only when I went into my friends room at University and saw and listened to his set up that I realised what I was missing out on in terms of sound quality.
He had the upgrade to this product - the set of 5 speakers. But due to my money situation I decided to go for these at a reasonable £30. I was highly satisfied with my purchase.
The speakers arrived in a tidy box, quite big because of the subwoofer, and with everything packaged in tightly and securely.
The instructions to set up the speakers were incredibly simple - even though I had never used a sub woofer before. It was as simple as connecting the subwoofer to the two speakers, connecting the subwoofer to the mains, and plugging in the green jack into my laptop.
The results were immediately noticable. It was like there was a new sound level to my music that I just hadn't heard before. The bass was producing a layer of sound that I hadn't even heard before and this was especially impressive seeing as I tend to listen to the RnB/Hip Hop/Grime genre. Of course this is nothing extraordinary or new to most people, its just from what I was used to - this was a godsend.
The speakers were excellent for my University room - and I'd say they are recommended for a bedroom, but probably not much bigger. The sound level was excellent and even at full blast I found the sound to still be crisp and clear. The subwoofer has a wheel on it from which you can turn up and down the level of bass. I found the bass to be already quite loud even on its lowest setting - a good loud though.
The treble that comes out of the speakers is a very crisp clear sound. Despite the subwoofer producing some really good bass, the treble is never drowned out and always remains a clear quality.
The subwoofer is a decent size and not too big or heavy. I would imagine it would fit neatly under most desks and not really get too much in the way of legroom.
The whole set is a nice sleek looking black with metallically silver parts - like the speaker covers. The speakers look very smart and sit nicely either side of my laptop screen.
There is a clever jack on the right speaker itself which enables you to plug your headphones directly into the speaker to get sounds through the headphones and not through the speakers. This is pretty handy as it means you don't have to unplug the speaker jack everytime you want to put your headphones in (especially if you only have one slot). There is an on/off button on the right speaker too so you don't ever have to take the plug out of the mains or switch it off at the mains.
A fantastic purchase which has produced a new level of sound for me, and better still, at a very decent price.
Summary: A fantastic purchase which has produced a new level of sound for me and at a very decent price!
