      Good Speakers for the price

      These Speakers are amazing, i use them on a daily basis for my PC and My xbox 360 they provide stunning audio with a good amount of Bass. These are perfect to enhance a movie watching experience as they provide a pseudo surround sound which sounds great. The Only downside to these speakers is the relatively complicated sett up and the vast amount of cables however if you are organised they can be contained. The speakers are still very good at high volumes especially with music, they are good to use at house parties as they provide such good quality for a cheap price and small size, They also come with a separate volume adjuster so you don't have to move to adjust volumes of Bass and Treble. They also look good so don't need to worry about hiding them away. They are compatible with most devices.
      All in all i would highly recommend these to people looking for the next step in audio quality.

      excellent!!!

      Hi, don't normally write reviews online but just had to spread the word about how amazing these speakers are! They are truly incredible for the money, with impressive bass, amazing surround sound as well as the all important remote control, with which you can plug your headphones into as well without having to reach fro your desk. The surround sound is great when watching movies if you have a 5.1 sound card, so much better than normal surround. They also look extremely impressive and are more than capable of annoying the neighbors - I have never really taken them above 2/3 volume, and that was just to test it. In normal use I never really take them above 1/3. They are also absolutely fantastic value for money at £70. I have had mine for about a year and have never had any issues with reliability or anything. Genuinely a fantastic set of speakers. And the bass is fantastic!!
      Feel free to message if you have any questions!

      Great speakers.

      I got these speakers two years ago and I have been happy with them since then. The sound quality, when plugged into a PC and playing a game such as Call Of Duty is phenomenal. The best features are the adjustable bass level, which allows you to turn it up and down as you please, as well as matrix mode, which gives the illusion of surround sound when plugged into a mp3 player. This feature makes these speakers a bit different from most of the competition and thus worth paying for. Moreover, the build quality is fantastic, mine have been through a house move, and plenty of drops and crashes, and they are still as good as new. The only criticism I have is that the long cables for the back left and right speakers could be a bit longer. I also should make the point that the bass speaker is quite large, so don't buy these if you have a tiny office/bedroom. All in all a great buy that I am still happy with to this day.

      I cannot recommend them enough.

      I am currently sitting here writing this at my computer whilst pumping out some Fat Boy Slim, all courtesy of the Logitech X-540 speakers. What else can i say other than WOW, simply WOW. I was presented them as Christmas gift about 2 years ago and i can honestly say they are the finest set of PC speakers i have ever been lucky enough to own. Everything about them is simply superb; the sound quality, the noise, the base, their appearance, their value, i could go on for days.

      Enough singing its praise for a moment though and down to the review itself. And where better to start than the shear noise these speakers are capable of generating. With an RMS power of 70 watts and a peak output of 140 watts, we are talking some serious bang for your buck. And considering that buck is under £60 then you really do have some seriously fantastic value speakers. With 5.1 surround sound and a brilliant sub woofer to boot you really will enjoy doing anything from listening to music and watching movies, to plugging them into your television and indulging in some online gaming. I have even used them for parties and they have performed superbly, a number of people even asking that i turn down the noise.

      In terms of the quality of the sound itself, you will not be dissapointed. Music and sounds in general are both crisp and clear, and the sub woofer really can handle anything a club DJ can throw at it, truly translating those heavy baselines into floor pumping euphoria.

      The speakers utilise a 3.5mm jack, which provides a fantastic array of options in terms of how you choose to use the speakers. I personally have mine hooked to my PC, but you can just as easily plug them into television sets or game consoles to add surround sound to your viewing experience.

      The set comes with 5 speakers, all with a designated role, whether it be rear, front etc, as the sound produced is then different for each speaker according to where it is positioned in order to provide the best overall experience possible. I have tried to ignore their guidelines and move the speakers about how i see fit, but it really makes sense to do as Logitech advise as you won't achieve optimum performance any other way.

      In terms of practicality, the speakers are extremely versatlie and convenenient. Wires are of more than ample length, so the size of the room you are using them in will not be an issue. They also all come with their own individual base which can either be swivelled so that you can stand the speaker up on its own or have it mounted on a wall. It really is designed with customer preference and customisation in mind. Brilliant.

      The set also comes with its own seperate volume control, which is attached by wire to the subwoofer. The wire is again of ample length, so room size is not an issue, and the console itself allows you to control both the level of base and the overall sound level. Again catering to specific customer preference.

      Build quality is exceptional. Admittedly they are composed of black plastic, which of course is not to everyones taste, but this does have a number of advantages. Primarily that they are strong and very durable. I have dropped a number of them, but have never had any issues with cracking or any damage what so ever to speak of.

      Overall you simply cannot go wrong with Logitech X-540 speakers. Considering the price, the sound and the quality, i defy anyone to find themselves a better deal currently available on the market. Birlliant stuff, get ordering.

      Fantastic speakers with great features!

      I purchased this speakers after my old Harmon/Kardon soundsticks broke on me, and my golly I've never been so happy that something had broken! These speakers are truly fantastic and deserve their extremely good reputation on this site!

      Packaging
      The speakers are packaged in a nice looking box (which could have been a little more stylish) and are cleverly packaged so you can easily access the instruction manual before anything else.

      Set-up
      This, suprisingly, doesn't take that long as it is really quite straightforward. You place the speakers in the correct places around your television and room and plug the colour coded wires into the correct sockets in the back of the amplifier/Sub-woofer. To connect the amplifier to your computer, you use another 3 colour-coded wires. You then connect the amp to the power and all is well.

      I must state at this point that I am using a 5.1 surround sound card (Trust SC-5100 5.1) which drastically improves the sound quality of any speakers.

      Sound Quality
      On the whole, this is fantastic, with great bass depth and a lovely sounding treble. Even at loud volumes, the sound quality does not degrade and you are still delivered with high power, high clarity sound. You can quite comfortably (or maybe not as the case may be!) listen to any music at high volume on these speakers with no or very little distortion. I have found that when you have no sound coming from the speakers, there is a lot of fuzz and noise from the speakers, but only at volumes where you wouldn't want to leave them for too long!

      Features
      The remote control (wired) which is included with these speakers is one of my most loved features. You can control the speakers power state (on/off) volume, 'matrix' on-off and bass level all from one handy controller that sits a fair way away from the speakers. We're not talking other side of the room distances, but anything is better than other speakers I have had where I have had to crawl on the floor every evening to adjust the bass!

      Surround-sound
      Of the very few occasions where I have actually been listening to surround-sound audio on my computer, the speakers have performed as I would have expected, well! Matrix mode does actually go a little of the way to using all the speakers with a stereo source but some audio gets a little jumbled up and I have had some odd noises coming from the rear speakers occasionally. Not much more I can say here as I haven't used the surround sound that much.

      Overall, these speakers are excellent, and in my mind, some of the best 5,1 PC Speakers available at the moment. They produce great quality sound, at a large range of volumes, and are relatively cheap too!

      Great speakers for a bedroom

      When buying a set of speakers it can be hard to find ones that fit all devices.
      Normally 5.1 surround sound speakers need 3x 3.5mm (earphone inputs) inputs, ipods and mobile phones only have 1x 3.5mm inputs.
      So normally only 2 of the 5 speakers work with ipods, but thanks to logitechs "matrix mode" you can use one 3.5 input to connect all 5 speakers!

      I bought these speakers for my laptop, and as you may know laptops do not possess the 3 outputs needed only the one, this means that these are the only 5.1 surround sound sets that works with laptops.

      If you have a computer with the 3 outputs then you can turn off matrix mode and use all 3 connectors to get the best possible quality.

      The sound quality of these speakers is great, the bass can be turned up very high, as can the volume. Be warned when turned up full these speakers will annoy the neighbors!!

        All in all, a great set of speakers

        With my set of 2.1 Sony speakers going busy, I quickly found myself in the market for a new pair. The problem with something like Speakers is that if you are bothered about your sound quality and not very wealthy, like myself, then there are a number of competitively priced speakers, but no idea which is the right one to go for,

        For me it came down to Logitech and Creative, they are both very good brands I had a choice between this x540 set and also the creative inspire t6100. From reading various reviews it was very close competition, but I settled for this set of speakers in the end.

        This is a set of 5.1 speakers. For those of you who do understand this basically means there are five speakers and one subwoofer. Again for those of you who do not know what a subwoofer is, it is basically a big fat box that provides the bass. These are relatively cheap priced surround sound speakers at £60-70 from most high street retailers.

        Everything is built and well and for the price you pay the sound quality is great as you would expect from Logitech. The bass is thunderous and of course dont go expecting Bose sounds as these arent Bose speakers, but you will definitely be more immersed into movies, games and enjoy music that extra bit more.

        You can turn the base of each speaker to make them easier to wall mount, which is a pretty cool addition. I would advise getting these wall mounter as it is very simple and will add a greater surround sound effect. I can see myself sticking to this set for at least another year until I look for my next grade and hopefully eventually get to the point where I can afford a brand name that is so exclusive that no one will have heard of it.

        This is my second set of Logitech speakers and a significant improvement on the 2.1 set that I had before. That was a £20 set that did its job and it was great to have a subwoofer for the first time, but now it is even better to be movng to 5.1.

        To sum up if you are looking for surround sound affordable speakers, then definitely check these speakers out. There may be other brands that are better, however I am not aware of a better value for money set of speakers, and please let me know if you know of any. Thanks for reading.

        Great set of speakers for a number of uses at a great price

        I have had the Logitech x-540's a few months to accompany the new computer i have just built and am extreamly impressed. They were my first proper set of computer speakers other then the cheap 2.0 ones you can sometimes get, and i am chuffed to bits with them especially for the price i got them for £40!!!

        Well onto the speakers, they have fantastic sound quality for a relitively budget set. One watching a movie in surround sound it is immersive and improves the overall experience no end. The bass is extreamly good adds a whole other depth to the sound as if you turn the bass down or off it just doesn't sound right it sounds tinny, the bass gives it realism. But be warned don't turn the bass and volume up too much as it will wake u your neighbours, I once went downstairs and heard the ceiling creaking, I thought maybe that i should turn it down a bit. Also my parents always seem to be complaining about a rumbling compling from my room.

        The speakers have all been constructed very sterdily, the only slight niggle which i would have liked to have seen is that the speaker I have at the rear cannot be angled left and right so cannot direct them properly, also i have had to buy extensions fot the rear speakers just make sure you get good quality ones and you should notice no difference.

        The in-line remote that comes with the speakers is very handy for cotrolling the the volume and bass level and also to turn them off. It also has a handy little matrix button which turns a 2.1 signal and turns it into a 5.1 signal so it play through all 5 speakers and is quite effective.

        Overall these speakers are amazing for the money and if you are looking to watch movies in surround sound or listen to music these are a perfect choice for you.

          Not Just For PCs

          ~~~ SURROUND SOUND ~~~
          The product is a 5.1 surround sound speaker system. I have never actually fully understood the definition of 5.1 but after a bit of research I learn that 5.1 is actually a version of surround sound. 5.1 is also a standard and the most widely used surround sound configuration.
          Essentially this means that the sound system provides sound from 3 devices in front of you and 2 devices behind you. Being surrounded by speakers is where the term originates.
          ~~~ LOGITECH X-540 ~~~

          Logitech is a well established computer peripheral manufacturer and produces high quality and reliable devices. My choice for this product was driven mainly by price. I have just bought a new TV and want to get the effect of surround without having to pay the high price of a TV sound system.

          The speakers on my TV are only 5 watts each and I had read that high volume could burst the speakers, not wanting to take a chance I opted for the Logitech sound system. I found this system on the internet for about £50 which is very reasonable for what I was looking for and the total was a whopping 70 Watts. Not a lot I hear you say, but far better than the built-in TV speakers.

          After researching many computer sound systems, it was confirmed that the sound system would need some adapting to use with a TV. However, I quickly discovered that you only need to be able plug this into the headphone jack of the TV.

          The difficulty here is that your TV needs to provide 3 connections and usually there is only 1 headphone jack. So 2 headphone jack doublers were required. 1 to plug into the TV directly and the second plugged into it. This would provide 3 headphone jack connections. 1 connection for the front speakers, 1 for the rear speakers and 1 for the central/sub speakers.

          ~~~ OUT OF THE BOX ~~~
          There is not a lot things to describe with this product. It is your standard 5.1 sound system with the following:
          - 1 centre speaker
          - 1 sub-woofer
          - 2 front speakers (left and right)
          - 2 rear speakers (left and right)
          The sub-woofer also has a remote control connected, which is a contradiction. The remote control is hard-wired to the sub-woofer and the cable is no longer than 75cm making operation further than that impossible.
          The control provides an on/off button and allows you to control the volume with a dial.
          The satellite speakers (those that you place around the room) are rectangular in design with a wire mesh covering the 2 circles. The center speaker is designed such that it allows you to place the speaker horizontally on the top of a flat screen TV with a flap that holds the TV in place.
          The remaining 4 speakers for front and rear can be wall-mounted or left free-standing. The base is flat allowing you to stand them up or you can spin the base to wall mount them.
          ~~~ CONNECTING IT UP ~~~

          The sub-woofer controls the output and on the rear of the device is a plate with all the connections. Each connection is clearly labelled as well as colour coded so there is no confusion as to where to connect the cables between the sub-woofer, the speakers and the TV.

          So on the back of the sub-woofer you have the following connections/colours from top to bottom and the speakers have the same coloured cable so you know where to place and connect each speaker.

          Output
          - Front (green)
          - Rear (black)
          - Center/Sub (yellow)

          Input
          - Front Left (green)
          - Front Right (red)
          - Center (yellow)
          - Rear Left (black)
          - Rear Right (white)

          Ordinarily, the output would match the PC sound card, but on a TV they plug into the headphone jack (using 2 doublers).

          As mentioned the speakers are very easy to connect to the sub-woofer by matching up the cables to the coloured audio ports on the rear of the sub-woofer.

          The sound system is mains powered and is ready to use once connected up.

          ~~~ CONCLUSION ~~~
          Even though I am not using the device in its intended configuration, in my configuration the quality of the sound system is really good. When I first used the built-in speakers on my TV I was disappointed. When I turned up the volume on the TV, the sound did not increase in line with the volume increase. Once I had connected up the sound system to the TV, the difference in sound quality was immensely noticeable. You can still use the TV volume to control the sound. The sound has more oomph to it and a single point increase in TV volume has a great impact on the sound being produced.
          Technically this is a PC sound system, but I have proved that it can be used with a TV and for the price this provides a great sound. The only disappointment is the hard-wired remote control. It is hard-wired into the sub-woofer so you can't even extend it and for the sake of avoiding the hassle I wouldn't try. The product is excellent specification for the price and I have been using this for over 2 years now, so reliability is also good.
          I've just bought the same system for the main TV, although I have needed audio/phono extension cables to place the speakers further away from the TV and sub-woofer.
They are however, perfectly ample for an average bedroom.Each speaker can be swiveled on its stand to allow it to stand either upright on a desk, or at 90 degrees to the bass for wall mounting. The centre speaker mounts well ontop of a flatscreen monitor.Definately worth the £50
            Id probably go for something else
            Ive had these speakers for 4 months, hooked up to my media centre PC in my living room. The are used for watching movies, gaming, and listening to music. I originally purchased them as I am a very big fan of Logitech and the price was decent.
            Upon recieving them and using them I'm actually a little bit dissapointed though. Sometimes backgroun music drowns out conversation in movies and programs, and I can pick up some buzzing noised at reasonably high volumes (although my partner cannot, maybe I have super good hearing!).
            Another bit of an issue is the length of the cables on the speakers, I would say they are a bit too short and wouldnt really be suitable in a big room.
            I wouldnt return them as its still a good product, but if I could turn back the clock I would maybe go for a different set of speakers.
            Disadvantages
            If you are looking for a cheap surround sound set, these are the ones to go for!
            I bought this set of speakers, primarly for console gaming (XBOX 360, PS3 etc.) and was a bit dubious over the stero output from the XBOX 360 (red and white phono/RCA cables) being able to deliver surround sound. I was wrong to worry, and they do deliver an amazing experience.
            The thing you will be using mostly if you are a console gamer, is the 'Matrix Mode' button - which essentially turns a 2-channel signal into a 5.1 surround sound signal. And it works AMAZINGLY well. I tried it out on GTA IV online, and had my friend drive around my character in circles, and I could hear when the car was behind me and when it was in front of me.
            Needless to say, this speaker set does a GREAT job of a stereo source, but it does an even BETTER job with a 5.1 surround sound input from your PC. I tried it out on Crysis and I was blown away.
            You get a wired remote control with the speakers which is REALLY useful. It features a main volume knob, a bass knob, a power button, the 'matrix mode' button and a headphone jack.
            The only problem is when you have a pair of headphones plugged in, the main volume knob doesn't work, you need to alter the volume from the source of the audio.
            Overall a great, cheap set of surround speakers for home consoles, PCs or DVD players.
            Quality 5.1 system for high quality cound
            LOGITECH X-540 SPEAKERS
            When you are an avid gamer, and use your pc to watch DVD’s not to mention today’s vast array of music and video available on the net, it is important that you have a set of speakers that will provide you with the best quality sound and performance. I remember back in around 1998 when I had the crappiest set of speakers that you could imagine (compared to today’s offerings), although oddly, at the time, they were top of the range! I remember at the time I thought the sound was fantastic, but in reality, thinking back, it was dreadful. Tinny, distorted……… not great when you really want to savour the multitude of sounds that you hear in the modern world.
            APPEARANCE
            After my last set of 5.1 speakers went mysteriously wrong (I think it was something to do with the subwoofer but couldn’t be bothered to try and fix it) I decided the time was right to buy a new set. Not only because mine were nearly 5 years old, but also because prices have come down so much in recent years, it hardly seemed worth messing around trying to repair my old ones.
            The X-540 speakers are again a set of 5.1 speakers, ideal for my sound card and exactly what I was looking for. In many ways they are not dissimilar to my old speakers. They still comprise 5 speakers and a subwoofer, they still link together in the same manner and they still connect to my sound card in the same way.
            The speakers themselves look fantastically modern, almost “space-like” if that is the right word for it. They give the air of being very next generation, merely in their design. They are very stylish and will complement any room, large or small.
            A lot of people seem to be under the impression that 5.1 speakers are only suitable for a large room, and boy how wrong they are….
            PERFORMANCE
            I use my speakers in a relatively small room. If the volume were turned up, of course it would be overpowering, but if you use the volume in moderation and work out the balance that is right for you, you will experience a truly remarkable advancement in sound technology. Gone are the days of tinny, distorted sounds, and in are the days of high quality, almost visually perceivable sound.
            It doesn’t seem to matter what I do, these speakers always seem to be able to perform. I have tried gaming, listening to music and watching DVD’s. I have also tried linking the sound from my video recorder into my pc and hence into the X-540 speakers and they always perform at a level I would have quite happily paid a lot more for!
            I did mention volume control earlier, but I have tried turning the volume up on full when using these speakers in a variety of scenarios. All of these scenarios have been mentioned above, but in each case the sound was never distorted, nor did it come across being anything other than exceptional quality.
            Of course, one thing that I do think is worth mentioning is that the actual quality of your music may be highly dependent on the sound card that you use in your machine. Personally I would recommend a SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 or above for the best quality output.
            LAYOUT
            The X-540 system is a typical 5.1 surround system. It consists of five satellite speakers and one subwoofer. One of the advantages of this system over others is that the satellite speakers can be mounted on your wall. This has the added advantage of keeping the off your desk and away from places where they may be knocked off corners or otherwise damaged by the occasional kamikaze coffee cup.
            The centre speaker is pretty amazing as it has a special little clip that allows you to clip it to the top of your monitor. I am not sure how many monitors it is compatible with but it certainly fits on mine. Personally I don’t like to use it on my monitor as to me it seems to be a little out of place, but it seems to fit the vast majority of flat screen monitors. Bear in mind though that it certainly does not clip onto the old style CRT monitors, although will quite happily sit on top of most of these provided you don’t shake it around too much.
            The subwoofer is a pretty average size and easily tucks away in a corner, or if you have a proper computer workstation with a shelf underneath it will certainly position on here very well indeed.
            CONTROLS
            The system comes with a pretty neat control system that enables you to quickly and easily control levels of sound and bass independently of your actual computer system. You can also connect headphones to it in order to enjoy your music privately, although obviously then you lose most of the benefit of the surround sound system as your sound then is limited to the performance of the headphones.
            SPEC
            For any technical buffs out there the detailed specification of the speakers is as follows:
            Total Power is 70 Watts
            The subwoofer is 25 Watts
            The Left and Right (front) Satellite Speakers are each 7.4 Watts
            The Centre Speaker is 15.4 Watts
            The Left and Right (rear) Satellite Speakers are each 7.4 Watts
            The total peak power is 140 Watts.
            SPEAKER SIZE
            All of the satellite speakers have dimensions of 8.4 inches by 3.2 inches by 5 inches.
            The centre speaker is 7.8 inches by 4.75 inches by 3.75 inches
            And the Subwoofer is a lot larger at 11/25 inches by 6.5 inches by 9.75 inches.
            COST
            I paid £75 on Ebay for my speakers although they are of course available elsewhere.
            SUMMARY
            Overall I would most definitely recommend these speakers to any serious sound freak. They perform well and really bring out the higher qualities of the music/games/videos that you listen to. They are robust and durable and are very good value for money.
            Combined with their futuristic design they are definitely worth a prized place in anybodies home.
