Advantages: Matrix mode, good sound quality, remote control
Disadvantages: noise at high sound levels
I purchased this speakers after my old Harmon/Kardon soundsticks broke on me, and my golly I've never been so happy that something had broken! These speakers are truly fantastic and deserve their extremely good reputation on this site!
Packaging
The speakers are packaged in a nice looking box (which could have been a little more stylish) and are cleverly packaged so you can easily access the instruction manual before anything else.
Set-up
This, suprisingly, doesn't take that long as it is really quite straightforward. You place the speakers in the correct places around your television and room and plug the colour coded wires into the correct sockets in the back of the amplifier/Sub-woofer. To connect the amplifier to your computer, you use another 3 colour-coded wires. You then connect the amp to the power and all is well.
I must state at this point that I am using a 5.1 surround sound card (Trust SC-5100 5.1) which drastically improves the sound quality of any speakers.
Sound Quality
On the whole, this is fantastic, with great bass depth and a lovely sounding treble. Even at loud volumes, the sound quality does not degrade and you are still delivered with high power, high clarity sound. You can quite comfortably (or maybe not as the case may be!) listen to any music at high volume on these speakers with no or very little distortion. I have found that when you have no sound coming from the speakers, there is a lot of fuzz and noise from the speakers, but only at volumes where you wouldn't want to leave them for too long!
Features
The remote control (wired) which is included with these speakers is one of my most loved features. You can control the speakers power state (on/off) volume, 'matrix' on-off and bass level all from one handy controller that sits a fair way away from the speakers. We're not talking other side of the room distances, but anything is better than other speakers I have had where I have had to crawl on the floor every evening to adjust the bass!
Surround-sound
Of the very few occasions where I have actually been listening to surround-sound audio on my computer, the speakers have performed as I would have expected, well! Matrix mode does actually go a little of the way to using all the speakers with a stereo source but some audio gets a little jumbled up and I have had some odd noises coming from the rear speakers occasionally. Not much more I can say here as I haven't used the surround sound that much.
Overall, these speakers are excellent, and in my mind, some of the best 5,1 PC Speakers available at the moment. They produce great quality sound, at a large range of volumes, and are relatively cheap too!
Summary: Fantastic speakers with great features!
