I'm absolutely obsessed with music and I swear that it makes the world go round, obviously it doesn't but it is rather interesting to listen to and it always 'chills me out' at times. I'm fussy when it comes to music and I really do detest cheap sounding speakers and I must admit that I'm one happy boy for finding this 'Logitech Z4' speaker system in Tesco one evening, I paid roughly £69.99 but this was about two years ago now and I don't believe that they sell them anymore but these are easily obtained from eBay or other sites, mainly second hand for around £30-£40 - Bargain I'd say!
These were very easy to set up and in the box I found two free standing (Satellite) speakers, a subwoofer and a control panel with a standard audio jack adaptor to plug devices into the system. All I had to do was find a suitable location for the system to live (This should be a hard and stable surface to avoid vibration from the subwoofer); I plugged the speakers into the back of the subwoofer and plugged the system into a normal electric socket, job done! Setup was totally painless and the instruction manual was not at all needed however a quick flick through it confirmed that everything was there to help a user in need of assistance - it also had every language known to man in there. The best way to set up these speakers is to have the subwoofer placed under a desk or on the floor with the two satellite speakers placed next to a computer monitor or on a table, this provides a better all-round sound without the music or sound sounding 'too much'.
*** A bit about the Logitech Z4 system ***
This is a rather nice looking speaker system that can be used with computers, iPods and any other devices with a standard 3.5mm stereo jack output. Most devices around have this output today and if they don't, there's always an adaptor available to create one. The system has an overall power of 80Watts which is pretty reasonable for a small computer sound system; this is mainly the power from the subwoofer as the free standing speakers are only rated at 8.5Watts each. It has a control panel that attaches to the system which has a large volume knob and a smaller knob to control the power of the bass - this subwoofer is pretty large and it is designed to give great bass, just how the user wants it.
*** Using the speakers ***
I first used my speakers with my iPhone and oh boy, did I have a surprise when I started playing some of my banging tunes! The speakers input wire is very long and it was the perfect length to reach from under my desk to the top of it, with me standing with my iPhone dancing around like an idiot. To start the music I simply plugged the cable into my iPhone, turned on the speakers by using the on/off button on the control panel and I pressed play on my iPhone, job done and I was instantly impressed with the quality and volume. To my surprise I had the speakers set to half volume when I first turned it on, I thought it was full until I turned the volume knob and I was greeted with perfect sound at a very loud volume.
I have now owned these speakers for two years and I'm pleased to say that I'm still very impressed with the sound and performance. The volume is easily controlled using the control pad's large knob and the volume control is very precise. I have got caught out a few times with the system as it took me a while to figure out that the overall volume is controlled by using both the speaker's volume control and the volume control of the device plugged into the system. For example, if you want full volume while using an iPhone, the volume must be selected to full on the speakers control panel and the volume must also be set to maximum using the volume control on the iPhone - this also applies to the volume while using a computer with the system, it's definitely not rocket science and it's easy to get the hang of after a few uses.
The sound from these speakers is absolutely amazing, vocals are crisp, I hear noises in songs that I've never heard before and the bass is absolutely amazing! If you like bass, these speakers are for you as they amplify the bass in songs amazingly but it's no big deal if you don't like bass as the bass volume is fully controllable. For such a small set of speakers I must say that I'm absolutely amazed by the quality and the overall volume that they give out, it's simply amazing. I have used these with my laptop on a few occasions for watching movies and the effects work very well with them, you can almost make them a slight surround system with a bit of arranging around the room as the satellite speakers have rather long wires, the bass in movies is just as good as when playing songs and this definitely helps the experience.
*** Design and durability ***
This system is designed very well and even though they are not the prettiest looking speakers around, they are definitely practically designed! I have had these speakers set up in various locations around my bedroom and I've never spotted a design fault. The small satellite speakers are nice looking with three speakers on the front, they have very effective legs and it takes a good whack to actually knock them over, I have knocked them off the desk on a few occasions and they have never come to any harm and they still look new after two years of use. The subwoofer speaker could be described as slightly 'clumbsy' but that's my opinion and others may think differently, the subwoofer is also quite heavy but this is still not a concern in my eyes as I don't move it very often!
This system makes a fantastic addition to any computer as it can easily become the main audio device as its sound is simply amazing. The speakers are a perfect size to sit next to a PC monitor and I guarantee that the sound will impress, there are obviously better available but for the price I'd say that this is a very competitive system for any standard user of a computer.
*** Overall sound quality and any problems? ***
The quality, as I mentioned above is absolutely amazing. Songs played through this speaker system are perfect and I hear things in songs that I have never noticed before when using headphones. The sound does not distort at all, even at high volume and believe me, that is high! The bass can be very loud, if you have the bass knob set to full and this can sometimes upset people, my mother often screams up the stairs for me to 'turn the bass down' - her opinion is that the sound is fine but the bass is too loud, even on the medium setting. I don't notice the bass too much when I'm in the room but the rest of the house and even the neighbours can hear it so it must be quite an effective feature.
I have generally not experienced any problems with this speaker system over the two years that I have owned it, it has never let me down and I expect it to last very much longer. My only slight complaint would be that the bass is too much but I'm only complaining as I get shouted at for it! I like the bass and it certainly makes my songs sound that little bit more interesting.
*** Overall opinion ***
I can 100% recommend this system to you as I'm still very happy with it after a whole two years of almost constant use, the sound is crisp, not affected by volume and the bass is amazing. They work fabulously as permanent PC speakers and they also work great with iPods and other devices with the standard 3.5mm jack connection. They have never let me down and they continue to work very well, I believe that I will have another good few years before a replacement is necessary for my lovely Z4 speaker system - they did come with a one year warranty but my time is up now!
Thanks for reading
I've always been a fan of good music but don't really like to pay over the odds for speakers. As a result I normally look for an audio system that can provide a good quality sound output at a good price. With these criteria in mind, I purchased the Logitech Z-4 audio system as I had always regarded Logitech as one of the better quality suppliers in the home audio market.
I bought this speaker set around 2 years ago, and it cost me £80 at the time. I've had a quick look on line, and found the same set available for between £40 and £60, so it is well worth shopping around. As it's a slightly older model, I doubt whether the usual high street computer stores will still be stocking this model.
The system itself consists of 2 8.5-Watt free standing speakers, a larger subwoofer unit, and a small control unit. Also contained in the set are the power cables and cables to attach them to the PC, and also a user manual, which despite being 82 pages long, only has 3 pages in English, but to be fair does a reasonably good job of explaining how to set the system up, and usage is pretty self explanatory anyway. The cables are also suitably long, meaning you can easily position them to either side of your average computer desk without having to worry about the length of them.
The general rule of thumb is to place the subwoofer on the floor, with the speakers on the desk either side of the monitor, and that is precisely the formation that I have chosen on my desk. The speakers can be angled up or down depending on how you set them up to direct the sound down to your position, so you won't miss out if the speakers are on the ledge above the monitor. The subwoofer itself is approximately 20cm square box, which needs some ventilation around it to avoid overheating and to provide a good sound quality. It is quite a substantial size and looks rather bulky to be honest, but in my experience it is about par for the course for a decent quality subwoofer.
The 2 individual speakers on the other hand, look very stylish. They are black in colour with a silver base and silver colouring on the speaker parts themselves. This gives them a very universal colour, which will generally not look out of place in many homes, and the size of them is an added advantage, as they are only around 5cm wide and 25cm tall, meaning that they take up very little room indeed. In fact it is quite possible to position them and then forget that they are even there, such is their inconspicuousness. In addition, despite their small size and slender shape, they are actually very sturdy. The base is large compared with their size, meaning its not likely that you will accidentally knock them over or damage them, and they don't vibrate or shake when playing music at higher volumes.
The control unit is only a very small little thing, about the size of a regular mobile phone, which can sit on your desktop in easy reach, and can be used to control the overall volume as well as the amount of bass that the subwoofer is powering out by means of 2 rotating knobs. The unit is again quite stylishly designed with a shiny black finish with grey/silver trims.
Once you have positioned your speakers where you want them, its very easy to connect them all up, as the two individual speakers each have a cable which you attach to either the left or right slot in the back of the subwoofer which will correspond to whether it's the right or left speaker in your set up. After that you can connect a single cable from the subwoofer into the back of the computer and then its all ready for you to listen to your favourite music.
So its easy to set up, looks quite stylish and isn't too expensive, which is all great stuff, but now onto the really important part of the review, does it provide a good sound quality?
Well the answer to this is definitely a yes. There is no interference or humming detectable, even at higher volumes, the sounds are crisp and clear, with no distortion either. It should be noted that this subwoofer packs a real punch when it comes to bass, as I like a good bit of bass, but have mine set at around a quarter of the way up, as I worry my neighbours may choose to kill me if I turned it up much more! In addition, the volume of the main speakers can also be turned up to a fair whack, much higher than would be needed for the average "home" situation. So with very little playing around, you can fine-tune your sounds to suit your personal tastes, and even the different types of music that you like without much fuss, which to me makes this audio system a real winner.
I should also point out that you could use this audio system to connect to personal music devices such as I-pods or other MP3 players. I've personally not tried, as I don't see the point in connecting a device to be used on the go to a speaker set which is designed to be in a fixed spot, but the option is there for people who are interested.
So to sum this up, I would wholeheartedly recommend this audio system to anyone wanting a good quality sound system for their home computer, but who didn't want to spend a fortune on it. Obviously there are better options regarding sound quality out there for those who want total surround sound with loads of speakers, but this will obviously cost a lot more and in my opinion the Logitech Z-4 is more than adequate for the needs of the vast majority of people.
Thanks for reading this and it may also appear on Ciao under my same username.
After being in the hunt for a new speaker system after previously owning the Logitech X-140's; having looked high and low for a decent affordable system, I came across the Logitech z4 system.
Having dipped into my account for this system, I'm sat now two years later and their still excellent. The main attribute of the system that brought me to them was the amount of power the sub had, and this is obvious when it's pushed to its limits.
I do feel sometimes however that the bass is too powerful, however luckily the speaker system uses a control, which allows the bass to be adjusted. This same control also allows you to adjust the volume.
The system looks very modern and is still in near perfect condition even after two years. The only problem I have found is on the volume control where it plugs into the subwoofer; sometimes when u wobble the wire a highly pitched noise is emitted from the subwoofer, but this could be a result of the speaker system being used at many parties :).
Another slight problem i have found is down to the vibrations produced from the subwoofer when music/sounds are being played; anything surrounding the subwoofer tends to rattle, however this could happen with any set, and is easily solved by either placing the sub under the desk, or sitting it on something (such as card board).
Having spent around £45 on these speakers, I feel that they were more than worth the money; for the sound produced these are more than worth their value.
I bought this speakers as an upgrade for my 10-year old speakers about 2 years ago, and still have them today. The sounds quality is excellent, which is the main thing you would be wanting from purchasing this. Adjustable bass as a good feature, and it has the possibility to give off really high levels of bass that will rattle your house! They look very modern and sleek and will fit perfectly with most work stations, however if you are short of space you may struggle to find an appropriate place to put the sub-woofer, personally I just place it under the desk and it still produces great bass. I have heard that the volume control easily breaks, but as I have said I have owned these for around 2 years and mine still works perfectly. In my eyes at around £50 these were a snatch, as they produce phenomenal sound, you will be pleasantly surprised.
Okay, so these speakers were bought to be used with a family computer and mainly for games, music, videos and simulators. Well, i must say that i am very pleased! The speakers are easy to set up, and emit fantastic sound with easy control. The actual set consists of 1 large speaker (placed on the floor underneath the computer desk in this case), and 2 smaller speakers, which are alongside the monitor. There is also the control panel, which is up on the computer desk, with a main volume control and a bass control, along with the on/off button. Let me say right now, these things can really boom! I would say that i am person who generally listens to music at a normal-high volume, and i never need to turn them past 1/3-1/2 if the computer volume is on full! The value for money is satisfactory, but the speaker set will set you back £80-100 so that must be considered before buying. the durability also seems good, but then again these are not exactly being damaged often 9although one of the mini speakers has fallen over the odd time and is still going strong. Overall, i would recommend this product, if you are looking for a good set of speakers, from a trusted make and do not have to worry about price, but as most people do, that, as i said earlier must be considered, but the quality speaks for itself, and so should not rule these out!
I currently have the Logitech Z4 sound system connected to my PC and let me tell you for the price its pretty hard to beat.
The setup is very straight forward unless your PC station is hid in the walk through wardrobe out of the way in my case, in which it caused a slight bit of faffing about but i got there in the end still rather quickly ha ha.
The sound system comprises of a pair of Z4 speakers which look very stylish and modern with the glossy black background and three miniature speakers each in silver, very attractive! As for the big Sub Woofer well it's nothing as special in terms of looks with its cubed shaped design in black, but a-side from that, it packs some bass behind it, proper vibration babyy... ha ha. Then last but not least is my favorite item, the separate volume control with added bass function which i just love to crank up when another of my favorite songs come on.
I think this PC sound system is very good value for money from a well known and highly rated brand in computer accessories! and doesn't upset. Really does live up to its high standards.
I've had the Logitech Z4 sound system for over one year now and have loved every minute of it as I'm huge fan of music and has always played a big role in my life. With perfect quality and crisp sound along with complimentary bass. Every song sounds that much better, there's no doubt about it!
A really cool and interesting feature that the Z4 sound system incorporates is the Ipod to Sub Woofer connection in which as long as you have a live mains socket free you can listen to great music anywhere in your house or even bring it to your friends house on the weekend and get the party started! It's fully portable within a household or somewhere with a socket, which is very useful! The wire that runs from your Ipod to subwoofer is also included in the box!!
Without the Z4 sound system your music will be boring for life!!
These speakers are exactly what I needed for my student bedroom. Aside from having perfectly decent sound quality, the important advantages of this particular setup are as follows:
1) the headphone in, and audio in at the front of the controller means that changing input sources, and listening with headphones can both be performed tangle free
2) the colour fits in nicely with black monitors
3) the adjustable base is a great help as if listening at night, you can still listen at a reasonable volume without disturbing neighbours or other people in the house who may be sleeping.
They have also taken a fair share of punishment, being knocked over etc and continue to live another day.
If you are wanting huge sound then these speakers are not necessarily for you, but I cant see many other reasons why these speakers wouldn't be perfect.
A good buy, but worth shopping around for prices, I got mine for 45 when PC world were doing an offer.
These Logitech speakers are very impressive, no need buying a high-end speaker the sound system is very clear and realistic, user-friendly and powerful. I use these frequently in my room and for house parties. It is a great improvement system from the previous Logitech's such as Z-3 esp in looks too i still think these are by far the most attractive ones..
The Z4 has a wired remote control with one big dial (loudness) and a mini dial (bass), you can easily control and adjust the bass or the loudness. The control is very convenient and easy to use. once dial turned which ever way the sound/bass would react immediately no lag or difference what so ever, it interacts spontaneously fast! The speakers are shockingly amazing for the price! Its great value and Logitech is a trusted performing brand. It's very reliable.
The design is modern and appealing, these also comes in white (z4i) but they are about £10-20 more, however the bass is much more stronger. It is great quality, solid plastic with a shiny glaze on top. The cube square is not too big either, the build is very positive does not look like its going to collapse or anything so dont worry these speakers can handle the loudness!it does its job and its very light to take up and down the stairs too.
The speakers are very easy to set up-theres about 5 different wires, which are coloured but its very straight forward, it has a cable that you can easily plug into the laptop or ipod (headphone hole) and you just play this way by this way.
The only problem that ive possibly has so far since ive got this are the 3 grey circles on the speaker it tends to attract dust quite easily so regular cleaning is advised, you don't want it to trap in too much dirt right? And maybe the bass can sometimes be too strong if you have it too loud. Especially at times if you can actually feel the walls or floor vibrate, it is a very powerful bass if you want it to be. you can have you own clubbing style atmosphere at home!very effective but if that's the problem you could always just turn down the bass but turn up the music or what ever you like.
The sound quality is fantastic no fuzziness or strange noises. I use mine to listen to slow jams and it is perfect, and for parties i would use it to play RNB and it surely gives us the right atmosphere. Aswel as that you can plug in and play games which i believe is very engaging too.
A few months ago I bought the Logitech Z4 speakers and I can say I am very pleased with the purchase. Having only had a cheap set of computer speakers beforehand, the z4 provided extra volume and quality that I was looking for. The price is also very reasonable. One part that I liked the most is the wired remote that controls the volume and the base level. It makes it very convenient to adjust the levels to your exact needs.
A few points I liked:
The build quality: the speakers are made partly of metal and the entire unit feels very solid.
The speaker leads are nice and long
Overall in my opinion the Logitech Z4 speakers are a very good set of speakers and are worth trying out if you are looking for a decent midrange set of speakers. In my opinion, the alternatives from companies such as sony and creative are not quite as good.
The Logitech Z4 speaker set is probably the best 2.1 multimedia speaker set you'll find at this price point. Featuring deep bass and clear audio, these are great for use with any PC for games, films and music. The set consists of a sub-woofer, two satellites and a wired remote.
The sub-woofer comes in a matte black finish, with a silver trim and glossy plastic surrounding the front grille. It is of a good size being around a 23cm cube and will easily fit under a desk or in a TV cabinet, but is large enough to create a very big sound.
The two satellites feature a similar silver coloured trim with a glossy black plastic front surrounding the silver/grey speakers. Each satellite stands on a silver coloured metal frame, which can be detached so that the speakers can be mounted on a wall. To facilitate this, each speaker has a mounting hole on the back. The satellites are connected to the sub-woofer by about 6ft of wire, which should be more than enough if you're planning to place them either side of your monitor, and just enough to mount them on a wall.
A useful feature is the wired remote, with a large dial for volume, and a smaller dial to control the bass. This means you can adjust the bass easily depending on whether you are watching a film, playing a game or listening to music. The remote also features a power button, and two audio jack sockets for input/output. This extra input means that you can hook up two different devices to the speakers; I have both my TV and laptop connected at the same time so I can listen to music whilst playing video games.
The sound is crisp and clear, with very deep bass possible if you play around with the bass dial and the EQ of the connected device, more than enough to be heard (and felt) in other rooms and different floors. If used just at normal volume the sound fills a room well, I'm currently using them with my small flat screen TV to improve the sound when watching TV, films, and playing games. I also regularly use them to play music, which they do very well. Although the sound quality will be not be good enough for die hard audiophiles, for the average user these will sound fantastic when playing music. They are especially useful for parties; their size means they can easily be relocated to another room whilst providing hi-fi quality sounds from your MP3 player or computer.
All-in-all I couldn't recommend these speakers enough, I am very, very pleased with them, especially as I managed to get them for £40 on sale. They look great, and sound great (the reason I only gave them 4/5 for sound quality is that they won't appeal to hardcore audiophiles, but that is granted at this price range) and have never yet failed me in the months I have had them.
The Z4's are yet another great release by Logitech following in a long line of high-quality speaker sets by the company. The set is wired and includes:
* Two large 8.5W Satellite Speakers
* One 23W Subwoofer
* One Wired Remote with Volume and Bass control.
This smaller sized set is not to be taken lightly, as they pack a punch. Coupled with a decent sound card, and this set will be more than enough for any smaller sized room. The price compliments the product too - at only £50 from stores such as ebuyer, the set poses great value for money, something that needs to be taken into consideration with the economy in the state it's in.
- Total RMS power: 40 watts RMS
Satellites: 17 watts RMS (8.5 watts x 2)
Subwoofer: 23 watts RMS
- Total peak power: 80 watts
- Frequency response: 35 Hz-20 kHz
Satellites: 5.1 cm dome driver, 5.1 cm pressure driver
Subwoofer: 20.3 cm pressure driver
- Speaker dimensions (H x W x D, cm):
Satellites: 22.9 x 7.6 x 9.5
Subwoofer: 22.9 x 22.9 x 23.8
- Signal-to-noise ratio: >92 dB
The speaker set is very attractive, and comes in the very common colour scheme of silver and black. This may be deemed "boring" by some, however it does compliment the rest of my desktop, so I have no argument on the colour front. The speakers aren't in any way garish, and aren't limited to the "gamer" market. They look as though they would suit any desktop, however modern the hardware is that occupies it.
The materials that the speakers are made from are very high quality - such that you would expect from a Logitech product. The glossy black finish on the satellites is a similar finish as is found on Samsung products - of which I am a personal fan. The cast metal stands are also great, despite several occasions of dropping the satellites, mine have stayed in perfect condition.
The audio streaming through these speakers is astounding. My previous speaker set was an old 5.1 Logitech set, and when changing to these 2.1 Z4's, I didn't expect as much as I would have got with a 5.1 Surround set. However, I was indeed surprised when plugging the Z4's in for the first time. The noise that is emitted from them is brilliant, and the set is capable of playing at very loud volumes, even making the floor shake, despite only having two satellites.
Films, TV shows and Music all fair very well through the Z4's, especially when coupled with a decent sound card. The sounds are very crisp at low volume or high volume and I was also astounded by the sound quality when playing games.
Being a Logitech product, these speakers are very reliable. However, if something did go wrong with them, the Logitech support system is very good, and an RMA would most certainly be handled very well. After 6 months of continuous use of my Z4's I can honestly say that I've never experienced any problems at all with them, and would fully recommend them to anybody.
The Logitech Z4's are a very good solution for most home computers although they may be a little on the small size for enthusiast users. However, I could not recommend these more to the average home user for the following reasons:
- They are of excellent quality.
- Great value for money.
- Louder than most people will need.
- Good wired remote.
- Attractive speaker set.
Thanks for reading,
Very impressed by these speakers. I was way due for a sound system upgrade as my old Labtecs were falling apart (one of the satellites had died, and it was starting to get thermo-nuclear if used for any length of time). I was sorely tempted to blow a huge amount of cash on some Bose speakers, but having read the very positive reviews online I thought I'd go for these instead. And I'm, very glad that I did. I'm no audiophile but I like my music loud and I like it bassy and these speakers certainly deliver on that.
The sound quality is more than adequate for general home use, be it music or videos/films. The 2.1 surround is more noticable when using them for video, but you still a very rich and full sound when listening to music, and most importantly, they don't sacrifice sound quality for volume. Even at it's highest volume and bass settings the sound is still crisp.
Personally, I use an equaliser to tune the bass and treble settings a bit. But I tried these without and the result was still quality sound.
All in all, if you're looking for a decent set of speakers for home use that aren't going to break the bank, then these are great! Sod spending £250 on some Bose ones :-p
