Advantages: Awesome Subwoofer, great crisp sound

Disadvantages: Subwoofer is very heavy - doesnt need to be seen as a disadvantage

I love speakers, and the Z-5500 is my fourth set, and by far the most I have spent on a set, with them coming in at just over £250 on Ebuyer, however the process of receiving them took longer than desired due to awful service from Dell which resulted in me cancelling my order and as stated above buying them from Ebuyer.

Now the speakers have been billed as the best that you can get for a PC and from my experience so far I have to agree, and I will give a quick breakdown review below.

The overall system has 505 watts, where nearly 200 watts is dedicated solely to the subwoofer, and the rest is split pretty much evenly between the five satellite speakers. Only when you see the Subwoofer you will release why these 200 or so watts are possible, and please do not let the picture above deceive you. The subwoofer is massive and weights a tonne, and taking the whole box all packaged up to my room upstairs was no easy task, and believe me I lift weights regularly in the gym so this box should come with a health warning.

The bass on the subwoofer is pretty amazing though, and all of the speakers provide crisp sound, there is no distorted sounds coming from anywhere which makes them sound very high quality, which they are anyway. The only problem with the subwoofer, apart from lifting it, is it comes with a warning that you cant keep it within 60cm of other electrical equipment like monitors etc due it containing strong magnets. I hope this is an exageration as I have my PC within 45cm of it...

Apparantly the midrange is lacking, but the thing is although I am a speakers expert, I don't know what midrange means, so I can't really comment on this as everything seems fine. I have tried a number of different types of tracks on here and everything sounds awesome.

Another great aspect about these speakers is the ability to plug in at the same time different sources, so currently I have it connected to my PS3, and PC, and when I want to switch the sound between sources I simply click the input button. On this note the sound on the PS3 is pretty good, but its hard to tell much difference as I mainly only use the PS3 to play fifa, which is hardly a game that is largely affected by sound.

I had the Logitech X-540 before which were good, but they just felt like they were missing something, and I could never quite put my finger on it, however having bought the Z-5500 I can state that they definitely arent missing anything at all, so if you can spare over £200 and are looking for PC speakers, than look no further than the Z-5500.

Summary: A great set of speakers.
