I haven't had these speakers that long but i love them.
I bought them new off Ebay for about £32 which is a really good price for them as they normally retail around £60.
The set consists of two stand alone speakers as you can see in the image above, but you also get a large power pack.
One speaker, the one with the power and volume controls has a wire that connects to the power pack and a small hole. This small hole is where the second speaker connects to. The power pack is a fairly large black box with three wires coming out of it when they are all connected. You have the power lead, the lead from the first speaker, and then you have the wire that connects to either your computer, CD player, MP3 player etc.
The speakers themselves are fairly tall at around 30cm tall, but they sure do look nice on any desk and they are not very wide making them great to put either side of a computer screen.
These are only 2.0 speakers meaning they do not have a separate subwoofer, but they do a built in subwoofer. This is the rectangle at the base of the speakers and it does produce some nice bass sounds as its supposed to. Of course its not as powerful as a separate subwoofer but not everyone has space for one of these making these speakers ideal.
The main speaker on the right hand side has a turn control which controls both power and volume. When the speakers are turned on, the outside of this circle control lights up blue.
The sound quality overall is excellent. The total power these speakers produce is 80 Watt which is excellent from speakers this size. I used to have some speakers similar size that were only 10 Watts so these sure do pack in a punch for the size.
I really recommend these Philips speakers. They may be a bit expensive to some people but if you look around enough i'm sure you will find some good deals. They are perfect for someone looking for some good speakers without having to have a separate subwoofer.
For some individuals like myself, the thought of having a 3 piece speaker system seems a hassle. Then again how many 2.0 speaker sets have satisfied with high quality sound at a sub £100 price tag? -> not even a handful!
Cutting straight to the point, I bought these speakers, purely on some reviews, the need to have sleek speakers that could be used with different sources, all at a cheap price tag.
One thing to note, is I have never seen the need for a headphone jack with speakers? except with low end computer speakers. Then again, I pose the question. If you have speakers why use earphones?
The build quality is top notch. The speakers themselves come in a metal /plastic cabinet where each speaker stand has one tweeter, 2 woofers and 1 Subwoofer.
Sound quality is excellent and full. You will not experience earth shattering bass that overpowers the high treble without a proper mid range to give it that full sound, like with many 2.1 sets.
The bass itself is powerful but never overpowering, and the mid range is full.
One thing to note is the large power supply. While not exactly eye catching, can be placed or hidden away without much trouble.
In all, these speakers are just that, high quality items which you will grow to love. Highly recommended!
The MMS 321 conveys quality from every corner, from its Mylar tweeters to the powerful bass pressure drivers. You get a subwoofer sound from just two speakers, exclusively finished with performance-enhancing stainless steel.
