Advantages: Cheap, fair sound quality and build, good for gaming and films on PC
Disadvantages: Few flaws such as stand not standing up, problem with sub
This is a good set of speakers for gaming and films, I also use them for music, but really, to get the most out of your music you need a good HiFi, as these speakers don't have the best sound quality going. So, if you want a good set of surround sound speakers for your PC, these will do nicely, and won't break the bank.
The sound isn't all that bad though, the subwoofer produces fair bass, which plays the lower frequencys nicely, though the driver is on the small side a bit and they make a strange noise when you put them up too high, like the speaker is hitting the casing, so not too well designed there... The mid range and highs are good, could be better, but you can't expect that much from 2.5" drivers. The satellites are easy to mount to the wall, you just hook them onto screw. Drill a hole in the wall, put a wall mount in, pop a screw in, hook the speaker on and your done. The only problem I had was the wire length, they give you about 3m of wire, which is no where near enough, so I just brought a extension cable, you just need a 3.5mm extension.
There aren't many features as such, quite a basic system. The control box has your power on/off switch, Volume, Bass, Rear and center controls on the front, and at the back, you have 3 X 3.5mm sockets for the 5.1, 6 channel input, and another single 3.5mm socket for a stereo input, and then a little switch to turn on "Dual Stereo". This is a useful feature, which puts stereo sound into 5.1 surround sound, which is useful for plugging in an MP3 player, or whatever, and listening to it with all 6 speakers. A rather annoying thing about the control system stand, is that it isn't too good at standing up, it is designed so that if you tap it slightly, it will fall straight over, or the wires can even pull it down! I had to put blue tack under it to keep it up!
These speaker go loud enough for what they are designed for, although only 5W X 5 + 25W sub, when connected to a computer, they go loud enough to annoy everyone else in the house.
All in all, not bad, good for games and film, has a few flaws, Sony could certainly improve it, but it wasn't a bad effort from Sony.
Summary: Good surround sound system, idea for games and films on PC
