I got myself an Ipod so when my CD player finally packed in I decided it was time to go for a docking station as I could use my laptop to store my CD's and music downloads.
I came across the Sony XDR-DS12IP DAB radio with docking station online. What attracted me to it was its stylish black frame. It was a rectangular shape of 31cm x 22xcm. It is mainly made up of the speakers with the Ipod dock at the front. An added bonus was the DAB radio. I used to own a DAB radio but sadly it broke but I often listened to Core, five live extra and the Absolute sister channels so I knew a DAB radio function would suit me.
My Ipod sits in the front and charges whilst playing music and dormant. On the front of the dock is a small cuboid shape that shows the time, date and radio station. I now use this instead of my clock radio. The display is not particularly large but all the needed information fits nicely and is easy to read.
It is incredibly easy to use with just a few buttons needed. This allows you to change the time/date, change radio stations and switch from the radio to your ipod.
The docking station comes with a large cable which is great as I often have it going through a window into the garden on summer days.
The sound quality is superb. It projects the music crisply and clearly. It can go quite loud but I would not advise using for a party as I needs a little more oomph.
I spent £84.99 for this and although I feel that is a tad expensive it has served me very well on a daily basis. After over a year of use the dock still looks great and works perfectly.
This is severley overpriced, I know it is good but I wouldn't have paid more than £50 for it had I know what it was like. Sometimes it doesn't work, sometimes it does! I find it really annoying when it only plays half a song then stops, especially when I'm trying to throw a party! i tried to sell it on ebay but no-one would buy it becausee it's terrible. I am so dissapointed with my purchase of this stereo, I would urge anyone even thinking about buying one of these to reconsider and shop around for something worth the money you pay for it. I even tried to take it back to the store but they wouldn't take it because it hs been used. Not happy with this product at all. I would rather have sat with my ipod on it's own than listen to this rubbish. So unhappy. Please if you are considering this, think twice before paying for it.
I have had this product for around 2 and a half months now to replace my old dream machine alarm clock and it is a more than worthy substitute.
The ipod dock comes with some attatchments so almost all ipods and iphones fit, the sound quality from the speakers is immense and the base is surprisingly good for such a small product. The display is clear and the controls are not too complicated and can be learnt so that you can even change settings in the dark. The DAB finction gives great, crisp sound quality and many stations can be picked up, if your favourite station is not on DAB then this alarm clock also has fm scanning.
The alarm function is very reliable, two alarms can be set (I have one for weekdays and weekend) and you have a choic eof being woken up to your ipod, a DAB station, an fm station or even a buzzer which is annoying but very effective.
The time is set by itself by radio control or something and it always stays accurate, becuase it runs by the mains a power cut can be a problem but the time is automatically corrected afterwards.
Overall, there is a lot that can be said about this product, it is a great music player and alarm clock and is probably in my top 3 gadgets I own.
