I am not a very technical person; I know a vague amount about computers, enough to get by really. I am not a technophobe though, I just don't geek out on all the technical jargon when it comes to buying new equipment.
The week before Christmas, the speakers on my daughter's computer packed up. They had served us well and although I could have done without having to buy more, we waved a final sad goodbye to the old set knowing Trust had done a good job. The old set had two side speakers and a boom box, I was going to purchase another set like this (more for the fiancé when he listens to music than anyone else's benefit). Obviously the week before Christmas, I was going to be lucky to find anything anywhere, I tried Argos but the ones I wanted were out of stock, I had already spend hours traipsing the high street so decided to buy a cheap set just to cover the Christmas period and I would replace them in the New Year. I opted for a set of Trust Mila 2.0 Speakers; I paid £6.99 from Argos and took them home pleased as punch. They are plug and play and although they come with an instruction leaflet, it is pretty simple. I did however have a couple of issues when I first plugged them in, this may have been my computer having a problem though, rather than the speakers.
The official blurb on the speakers is as follows: USB powered, no wall power needed. Compatible with 3.5mm audio connection. Easy install. Volume controls. Plug and play. Headphone jack. Satellite speakers:2 x 5 watt satellite speakers. Size H18.5, W7.5, D9.5cm.Centre speaker: General information: Manufacturer's 3 year guarantee.
They are basic black speakers with silver parts; there is a funky blue light on one speaker, along with the on/off button, headphone point and volume knob. For basic speakers that cost very little they are very good, I don't want concert pitch out of them after all it is for the odd youtube video, music etc. I don't even think I will bother replacing them as they look ok and sound good. Defiantly worth the money.
Our previous computer speakers were pretty ancient, and when the power plug got cracked and all the pins fell out, we knew it was time for a new set. However, we don't watch a great deal of movies or TV shows on our PC and while we do listen to music a little bit, it's not enough for us to be concerned about high powered speakers with crystal clear sound quality. What we needed was a cheap set of speakers to replace our old ones, and that is exactly what we got. These speakers cost £6.99 in Argos.
To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised with the sound quality from these speakers. I'm no expert on these things, but when I play music through them, the sound is clear and definitely loud enough. I keep the volume turned quite low on the speakers, and it's set at a medium level on my computer, but it can definitely be turned up higher if you were having a party or needed sound for a presentation. Each speaker has a power level of 5W giving 10W peak power. They don't need to be plugged into the mains, as they are power by USB connection to your computer, which is a great bonus for us as in the past we would have to switch between the printer and speakers on our power strip - now we can have both!
They are wired, and come with a built in USB and audio cable. They are black and silver plastic, and complement our computer nicely. They are about 18.5 cm high, 7.5cm wide and 9.5cm deep, so are quite compact too. Another bonus is the headphone socket on the front of one of the speakers, which make it easy and convenient to plug in headphones. There is also a large on/off button, which you simply push to use, a volume dial (which doesn't have any markings on it) and a blue LED power light. There was no need to install any drivers - I simply plugged them in and started using them straight away.
Overall they are a great value set of speakers, with no downside as far as I can see, and are perfectly suitable for most average PC users who watch movies or use their computer for music.
