A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett really is a beautifully written novel. It was originally published in 1905 and and is a children's novel. Considering the novel is over 290 pages I felt it would be a much better idea to buy it on audio CD for the children because they would likely to lose interest! I would really recommend this audio CD version of the novel if you have children or to give as a present. It is one of the great children's books in my opinion and is superbly written throughout.
The novel is about a girl named Sara Crewe whose father loses a lot of money and is made bankrupt as a result. Sara used to have a fabulous lifestyle with great whealth but she now finds herself reduced to nothing and she now lives a life in poverty. At the school she goes to called Miss Minchin's, she was a very lucky child but she is now forced to work as a servant because she doesn't have the money anymore. Sara though is at heart a kind and loving girl and with all her might she knows that she can remain a princess inside her heart. It really is an inspirational novel and really has a magically essence to this.
I really felt that this was the ideal children's book because it has a brilliant novel that attempts to teach children about some moral values. For example, how money does not change who a person is at heart and they can forever be happy despite not having great whealth. So I really felt that the novel gave some great messages and it really is beautifully written. The narrator on the CD Lucy Whybrow really does hav a superb and engaging voice that will keep you listening throughout the novel! I hope this was useful and thank you very much for reading!
Sara Crewe is sent to school in England from her home in India. Her teacher, Miss Minchin, treats her like a princess until she realises Sara doesn't possess a princess' fortune. Sara is then despatched to live in the attic and become a servant.
