My daughter fell in love with this story when we read it as part of a project she was doing at school in p3. She struggles to sleep at night and enjoys listening to CDs as part of her wind down at night so I was pleased to try this for her. We actually got the CD as part of a combined set and it is the same one as is available individually.

The story is told by Roald Dahl himself which significantly adds to the magic for me but I'm not sure it made much difference to my daughter. The story is true to the original text with I think some adjustments for being read. I found the tone, speed and pitch of the narration very easy to listen to while still giving the excitement and fun of the story. While an exciting story, I have found that it does not over stimulate my daughter and so would recommend it as a good one for listening to at night.

The story is all about the adventure Charlie Bucket has when he wins a golden ticket to visit Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. While I think most people know the story, and have probably seen a film version or read the book I believe that you could listen to this CD as your first visit to the story with no problems.

The CD itself is broken down into a number of tracks which does allow you to jump in when you wish. However as I mentioned before, my daughter has trouble sleeping so in our house it gets listened to from start to finish.

I would thoroughly recommend this book as a good presentation of the paper book and as it's read by the author, you can be sure it's read how he intended.
