Advantages: Funny, great songs, good script

Disadvantages: NOt quite as well made as HBO TV series (which came after)

Jermaine Clement and Brett macKenzie are the band 'Flight of the Conchords,' New Zealands fourth most novelty folk group. Yes, even in the title they are funny people and this audiobook from BBC radio has them back to their raw roots before HBO whipped them up and turned them into, well, nonchalent subdued Kiwi superstars!

If you have seen the TV show, you will recognise a lot of the jokes, songs and plots in this six episode series which have the boys looking to make it big in London. Once again Rhys Derby plays the part of their naive and out-of-touch, yet hilarious, manager though he is known as Brian, rather than the now familiar 'Murray' of the TV show.

The songs form the foundation of the episodes as they do in the TV show, yet they are more entwined in the plot and reality, possibly due to the radio influence and though are very funny they just aren't quite as clean cut as the TV show. However, taken on their own radio merit, no one's going to complain at such gems as 'The Rhymenocerous vs the Hip-Hopopotamus' and their tribute to Lord of The Rings.

The warm Welsh voice of Rob Bryden is there to narrate and a cameo each week by Neil Finn ("The White Bob Marley of the North Island") always brings an added touch. Also other voices are provided by the likes of Greg Proops, Jimmy Carr and Peter Kaye and I believe there is a Chris Morris influence in the production which means it can't be bad!

Summary: There first steps into mass entertainment prove the Conchords were on to something big
