Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was and is the second book in the seven book Harry Potter book series written by JK Rowling, the books of course plot the course of Harry Potter through his years at Hogwarts School of Witches and wizards and his battles with Voldemort.

This is the second book so the characters don't have to be introduced and the story can continue from the end of The Philosophers Stone, the end of the previous story introduced the concept of Voldemort actively looking to recover his abilities and willing to do anything to achieve that. The Chamber of Secrets introduces two new characters, one is Professor Lockhart, a kind of celebrity wizard who with his polished manners writes about his journeys through the wizard world. The other is Ginny Weasly, Ron's younger sister whose going to Hogwarts for the first time.

The book features now iconic moments like the flying Ford Anglia, the introduction of Moaning Myrtle and the brilliant foppish behaviour of Professor Lockhart but that's the book what about the audiobook?

This audiobook is by English actor Stephen Fry, Stephen Fry is considered by some to be a national treasure with his wit and banter. His voice has a lovely timber and has an ability to slip into any accent and maintains his roles throughout the book. His skills in accents mean that each character is given persona and character ranging from Hagrid's bluff roughness to Lockhart's smooth persona and Finch's creepy oiliness. Fry leads us through the novel, his pronounciation of each words means that the story flows along at a decent rate and doesn't feel slow and dull as audiobooks sometimes feel.

The book translates into 10 CD's and is about 8-9 hours long, it's perfect for long car journeys or long boring flights if downloaded. Fry gives us a new sensation on the book written by JK and giving characters the same voice through out the novel adds tremendously to the enjoyment. His Snape is one of the great parts of his audio version, it's oily, smooth and a bit sinister and a competitor for Alan Rickman's version in the films.

This is a lovely listening experience and any Potter fan should listen to the books at least once.

Summary: A lovely experience
