****Hugo in Three Months: Italian****
I took a crash course in higher Italian in 5th year at school and this is one of the main resources the teacher used.
**About**
Hugo sell a wide range of language learning courses including french,German and Italian. The book can be bought on its own for £5.99 or you can buy it with cds for RRP of £25.
**Who is it for?**
This course is intended for people studying on their own who want to gain knowledge of the language in a short space of time and is also suitable for those who are studying Italian at gcse level.
**Layout**
The book is set out in weeks-and has what you should learn each week in order to complete the course in three months.
I would say that you would need to dedicate at least a couple of hours a week to this to get the full benefits/learn everything well.
Each section details at the beginning what you will learn that week. There is then a conversation in Italian followed by a translation in English. One thing that i thought was annoying was that it didn't link very well with the cd-so as i was going through it i had to write the track number in the book. This would have caused problems if i had wanted to skip a chapter as i wouldn't have known what track to use on the cd.
I think this works quite well,my teacher pretty much used this to teach the first part of the course and i passed so it must have worked.

- 18/09/08 I think these books are a waste of time. I have lived in several countries and never used a book or any learning method. It is my personal opinion only and I would say the best way to learn any language is to live with the people in an area where you don't have any choice - you either pick up the language or you die!!!! |

- 17/09/08 Learning a language depends on the learner, the teacher (if not self-study) and the materials (book, CD or whatever). No book can work on its own. |
