Twilight (Audio CD)
Advantages: Clear words. Nicely packaged. Price. OK story.
Disadvantages: 11 CD's. Very american accent.
I have recently been driving through Europe with my daughter and I wanted something to listen to that we could both enjoy. I had heard about the Twilight series of books, and while my daughter had seen the films, she had never actually read the books - and so I thought that this would be a good opportunity for us to share the book together on mammoth drives. It is worth pointing out that this only includes the first book as when I bought it I didn't think it was very clear whether it was only the first book or the entire Twilight trilogy. The CD collection cost me £10.45 from Amazon (www.amazon.co.uk), which I thought was a very good price and a price that I was willing to pay. The collection was delivered the next day.
The packaging of the CD collection is essentially the same as the book with the picture of the white hands holding a red apple. They come in a little box with a plastic case and so the CD's are well protected when they are being stored. There are eleven CD's in total with each CD having about an hour of the story on them. In total the story lasts 11 hours and 51 minutes. I'm not too sure why they are broken down into so many CD's as I would have thought that it would have been possible to get more than an hour on each CD, but having said that it is actually a nice way of having the story broken down because you can just decide to listen to a disc at a time and then have a break between discs.
The story itself probably needs no introduction, but it is essentially the story of Bella Swans relationship with Edward Cullen (a vampire) and Jacob Black (a werwolf). This first book mostly concentrates only on her relationship with Edward. It's fantasy set in reality and it is an enjoyable journey that I would imagine appeals to teenage girls mostly, but as an adult I also enjoyed it.
I wasn't that keen on the narrator of the audio version as her accent is very american and I didn't feel she was expressive enough where I thought this was needed. She also didn't always put the same emphasis on certain words that I would of had I been reading it, but I guess this is a matter of personal preference. However, the words are very clear and it is easy to listen to.
Overall, I think this audiobook is an okay book. It's not going to go down in my memory as the greatest experience, but it helped us pass the time enjoyably and for us also to share the story together.
Summary: It's okay.
