Aveda Be Curly Curl Enhancing Lotion
by katrina_lou Wow! If you haven't already got your hands on this product you need to run to the shops now!! I have medium length hair which is naturally slightly curly, however it is very frizzy if I let it "run wild"! This product solves all my problems and more!! The lotion itself has a lovely smell which isnt overpowering and ... smells quite "natural". You simply have to get a small amount of the product on to your hands and then smooth it over your hair - from root to tip. I usually then use my fingers to ruffle my hair again. You then will need to blow dry your hair and then.. perfection!! My hair isn't one bit frizzy after using this lotion, it also makes it really soft and doesn't turn your hair greasy or sticky at all. Although this product is fairly expensive from the Aveda shop direct it is really good value for money as one tube lasts me about 5-6 months, and I use it almost every day! Read the complete review |

Aveda Lip Saver SPF 15
by sparkle1004 Our lips are covered with skin just like the rest of our bodies. Unlike the rest of our body however, they don't have the ability to self moisturise. They can easily become dehydrated, chapped and flaky which means they don't look good and they don't feel good either. What does it do? The Aveda Lip Saver is a soothing ... lip balm that has been designed to moisturise your lips and to prevent them from becoming dry and flaky while keeping them hydrated all day. It also claims to protect the lips from the UV rays and other external factors such as pollutants and cold weather while preventing the lips from losing their fullness and prematurely aging. And it promises to do all this by using only natural ingredients. How does it work? The lip balm contains Sunflower Oil which hydrates the lips while nourishing the skin with vitamins and as it's an antioxidant, it will fight against the free radicals lurking in the skin and prevent them from prematurely aging the lips. It also contains fatty acids which maintain the health of the skin cells and keeps lips looking fuller. BeesWax is included because it softens the lips and creates a natural barrier over them which prevents any further moisture from being lost and therefore keeps them hydrated all day. Brazilian Carnauba Wax is also present and helps to further retain the moisture. Cinnamon Leaf is present in order to speed up the healing process of chapped lips while improving the blood circulation meaning your lips will be plumper. Clove oil is included because of its antibacterial properties which prevents infections and keeps the skin healthy. How do you use the product? The product is to be used in the same way as a normal lip balm. It is to be rubbed over the lips as often as required and can be worn alone or under a lip stick or gloss. Packaging and price The lip balm comes in a creamy coloured tube and you pull the lid off to access the product. The packaging makes it easy to use on the go and it is small enough to be stored in your handbag or pocket. The part that you twist to move the balm higher up the tube is at the top of the stick and not at the bottom which is quite unusual. Obviously you need to be careful that your fingers don't slip while you're twisting the tube or you'll crush the balm and get sticky hands. The product doesn't come cheap costing around £11 for 4.5 grams of the balm. It is available from many online websites, so shop around to get yourself a good deal. My thoughts Despite this being an expensive price for a lip balm, you can tell this is a high quality product. It improved my lips from the first application and kept them moist all day without the need for reapplication. When using some of the cheaper lip balms that I've purchased I've needed to reapply the product constantly which means they run out sooner. The long lasting results with this lip balm means that I won't be needing to replace it any time soon. The lip balm does a fantastic job at healing any dryness or chapped skin that you may already have, moisturising the lips and ensuring that they stay hydrated. It makes your lips feel comfortable and they look healthier. I'm not to sure that it plumps up my lips but they are certainly in a better condition which makes them look fuller. This balm doesn't make the lips overly sticky or greasy, it just coats them with a lovely layer of moisture. It doesn't give the lips a shiny appearance and it makes them appear as matte as a balm can. Despite this fact, it is fairly heavy on the lips and you will be very aware that it is there. The product comes with a SPF of 15 which is fantastic as people frequently forget that they need to protect the lips from the sun as well as the rest of their skin. Obviously we can't use our normal sun cream on the lips as it would probably taste bad but this product tastes lovely. Obviously it's not designed to be consumed but if it's on your lips, you're going to taste it at some point so it might as well be yummy. The fact that you get all this from natural ingredients makes this product extra special. The aroma you get from the product comes mainly from the cinnamon and cloves and so the fragrance of the balm is quite herbal. It is a faint aroma but as you apply the product under your nose, you will smell it. Although it's not the scent I would usually go for, I like it because it smells healthy and natural. All in all, this is a balm made from natural ingredients which will nourish, hydrate and protect the lips. It gives a matte appearance and comes with a herbal smell. It will fix flaky lips from the first use and protect your lips, whatever the weather. Read the complete review |

Aveda Pure Abundance Volumizing Clay Conditioner
by sparkle1004 Aveda is a brand which prides itself on creating beauty products for our hair and skin using natural ingredients. Since 1978, it has been selling product to make us feel beautiful both on the outside and inside and it strives to protect the environment at all costs. Their hair products are often luxurious and none more so ... than the Pure Abundance Volumizing Clay Conditioner. I chose this particular conditioner out of all the lovely choices because this one is designed to boost the volume and that's something that I am always trying to achieve with my lifeless hair. It promised to make my hair feel thicker and to appear fuller while giving it an uplifting volume so I thought it was worth a try. How does it work? The products main and most unusual ingredient is Kaolin Clay, hence the title, and the substance nourishes the hair and regenerates the brittle and broken strands to make them strong again and prevents them from snapping in the future. It revitalises even dry and damaged hair and leaves it feeling soft and smooth again. Organic Acacia Gum is the substance that you can thank for your newly volumised locks because it helps to lift and fill out the hair making it feel thicker. The substance is actually sap from a tree native to Africa and it creates a coat around the individual strands, literally making your hair fuller. Honey is included to give the hair a healthy shine and prevents hair loss and thinning of the hair. It helps to restore each strand back to its former glory and will also improve the health of your hair follicles and scalp. Calendula is include to soothe the scalp while Marshmallow is included to leave your hair free from tangles which means it won't pull and snap as you brush it. As with all Aveda products, this product comes with its aromatherapy benefits too. Organic Peppermint Oil has been included not only to give a minty and refreshing scent but to hydrate the hair and to nourish it with hair loving minerals. The substance also stimulates the scalp and hair follicles which encourages the growth of healthy new hair. Ylang Ylang Oil is also included to stimulate the hair follicles and to encourage hair growth. It's an exotic and sweet smelling flower which reminds me of Vanilla and the aromatherapy benefits of the beautiful flowers includes inducing a calming and relaxing feeling on the body and mind. Palmarosa performs much the same job as the Ylang Ylang and also comes with a similar sweet smell. This aroma is supposed brighten the spirits and allow you to think clearly. Jasmines equally sweet scent will apparently boost your confidence and lift feeling of sadness. How do you use the product? The product is to be massaged into damp hair after using a shampoo. As the product has so many ingredients to stimulate the hair follicles and to nourish the scalp, I take a few minutes to ensure that I massage the conditioner into my scalp as well. When the time is up, I wash it out thoroughly until it feels completely clean. It can be used daily but I keep it for special occasions. If you wanted to make this product last longer, you could just use it in the roots, as that's where it really gets to work and produces its results. Packaging and Price The product comes in a plain white bottle that stands on its flip top lid. Aveda is not a company that troubles itself with fancy packaging as the company believes that the products will speak for themselves. The product will cost you around £16 for 200ml and it can be bought many online websites so shop around if you want to find it for cheaper. My thoughts When I first got this product home and saw the ingredients I was really apprehensive about using it on my hair. I mean Sap, Clay, Honey and sticky Marshmallow are not ingredients you would expect to find in a conditioner and I wondered whether I would ever get it out of my hair or be able to brush it again. I didn't need to have worried however. The texture was rich and creamy and not gloopy and sticky at all like I had imagined it would be. My hair is easy to brush and there are fewer tangles which means my hair doesn't pull and snap so easily anymore. It definitely makes my hair look fuller and thicker and give it added bounce and a new lease of life. When used continually, it seems to make the hair thicker with each use. It also gives it a beautiful shine that I wasn't expected to find from a conditioner containing clay. It never makes my hair feel greasy and I can still manage to wash my hair every other day without it falling flat and losing it vitality. Because of the price, I tend to use this conditioner as a treat for a special night out but the results are immediate and my hair looks in a better conditioner after one use. It's in the same price category as Bed Head which is a brand that I also love, but knowing that the results of this conditioner are produced by natural ingredients makes it feel more special. I was a little disappointed with the aroma of this conditioner. I expected it too smell tropical and sweet because of the Ylang Ylang and Jasmine but it is the Peppermint that is the dominant smell and it's mixed in with a herbal earthy smell. I really love the sugary and intense smell that comes with Bedhead products and I was hoping this would be similar so it didn't really lift my mood as promised. As in all, this conditioner will give the hair bags of volume and makes it thicker and fuller, especially with continued use. It coats the hair with a natural shine and reduces breakages by hydrating the hair. The smell is nice if you like herbal scents and even though it's expensive, its life can be stretched out by just using it on the roots. Read the complete review |
